422 need to tow out of woods

6 mm allen two turns backing off and it moved real easy. Now that i know what to look for, i checked the manual again and sure enough, it had a picture of the pump all by itself with an arrow pointed right at the allen screw. I never was very good at reading.

I also disconnected the steering ram from the back tub so that it would follow well when pulling it out.

Once i got it up to a level spot, i hooked the pickup up and away it went. As it turned out, lucky the rough cut mower was still attached, as it acted as an break of sorts so the PT wouldn't roll down slight inclines into the truck so i didn't have to rig anything up to keep it off the back of the truck.

Now i have to look at the engine to see what is what.

Just to clarify, a bypass is needed when towing and the engine not running right? Last night I got myself into a situation that I needed to tow the 422 about 15' by myself. Had the engine running though.

I do not know for sure, but how would it roll if the engine was running? The treadle in the neutral position is effectively a brake when the engine is running.

Well, roll it does. Many times I've hopped out of my seat to move something in my path while on a slight incline and unless I engage the actual brake it will drift.

I don't know about towing it when the engine is running. I'm assuming the bypass would be used to reduce the pressure across the pump, by basically taking it out of the circuit. My guess is if your towing speed was not faster then the rolling speed you would develop "coasting", that you would not develop more pressure. If i was doing it, i'd still bypass though, just to be safe.
