4052R is DEAD

New $175 Battery resolved my problem. I had to modify it slightly to fit it in. The little ridges were different than the original one. Thanks all for your help!
Middle of last winter I replaced the battery in the 4052R at my work and had the same issue with the battery clamp. A few minutes with an oscillating multi tool made it fit, but I was a little annoyed that Deere seems to have made the clamp to only fit their OEM battery.

Sunday morning I started my JD 4052R. I planned on doing some mowing. I manuevered it to remove bucket and turned off engine. After doing so, it failed to start. It has never failed before. All I got was some clicking noises. All the dash lights illuminated but not nothing turned over. I tried jumping and it didn't even try to turn over - more clicking. I removed the battery and it tests okay. My PTO is off!

A friend suggested checking the engine oil level - that is okay. Same with transmission fluid. I am stuck! Is there anything I can do before summoning the dealer?
Sounds like the starter. Pull if off and test it.

What is the safety starting procedure on your tractor like out of gear, clutch pushed in, high low in neutral, shifting the gear levers in and out a few times, they have sensors that may not be sending the ok message to start. Check their earth and starter to chassis and chassis to cab earth.

How old was the battery? I replaced my 4052R battery this summer after getting 7 years use out of it.

I have a 2001 4200 so it may not be the same, but had a similar issue. The 4200 has a fuel solenoid with a varistor that causes intermittent issues. I found after it was suggested by a Deere technician/mechanic to clean all the cube relays in the control/fuse box, but also to wiggle each one when turning the key. Isolated which one it was (for me, third down from the top) and it starts every time. Good luck.

About what I have been getting, as new in '98 and just put 4th one in the 4300.

I found that thermistor tied into the fuse block on my 4300. Innocent looking but packs an important part of the engine running. Arrow points to it.
