3PT drift-down

Hey guys, I'm still finding out what's good/bad about the used Challenger MT285B I bought. One thing that's a PITA is the 3pt drifts down about 1/2 way when I pick up my landscape rake. I don't think it's a weight issue, it just drifts down to the 1/2 way point & stays there. If I take one of the thumb screws and slide it up to the point where the handle stays still, it's fine.

Seems like it's something to do with the handle mechanism itself-not staying in place?? Is there a broken spring or something?

On the shaft where the position control lever rides, there are two nuts. Loosen the lock nut then tighten the other nut until the lever is snug but not too tight. Then tighten the lock nut down again.
These nuts hold tension on a spring on the outside of the lever.
I think that's the way your model is designed.

I recently replaced the FEL valve on my GC2300 and now the 3 point hitch doesn't have any power. With high enough RPM it will raise, but not with a load. The FEL operates perfectly and with the hose configuration, it will either work or it won't.

The loader is a MF2350 and the replacement valve is made by Brand Hydraulics. It is a monoblock loader valve with regeneration and is a 2-spool loader valve rated for 10 GPM and 4000 PSI, with adjustable relief preset at 2000 PSI. Spool actions are regeneration with spring-centering and 4th position float.

I noticed on another thread that you replaced the valve. Why did you need to replace it?

Hi Jerry, its been a while since we last communicated. I think the last time was when the avian flu was the biggest news. Now, it's swine.

Something happened with the original valve and it started sticking and leaking. It was cheaper to replace it than it was to repair it, especially with no guarantee that it wouldn't leak again.

Sounds like you have not hooked up the power beyond line that feeds the 3PH properly, OR did not install the PB sleeve in the new valve. You do have 7 hoses connected to the new valve right?

Yes, there are 7 hoses connected. Six of them are on the top and one is on the side. Four of the top hoses are for the FEL, and one is connected to the top side marked "IN" and the other hose which runs all the way to the rear is on the side of the valve. There is plenty of fluid in the system and like I have previously stated, the FEL works as it should. There seems to only be 2 hoses that could be reversed, but the system works the same either way they are connected. My thought right now is to put the old valve back on to see if the 3 point system functions normally.

I bought the valve from Northern Tools and it didn't mention the PB kit. In looking at the old valve, it has something that looks like that, but it has larger threads and wouldn't fit the new valve.
