What size/thickness angle iron would be good for a carryall that could lift 1000-1200 pound pallets? How long would the "forks" need to be? I want to order some metal this week, and I was thinking about 3x3x1/4" but I could go with 3/8 thickness maybe?

I used 3x3x3/8" for mine... haven't bent it yet, but I don't use it for lifting pallets either. Are you going to put lumber on it and use it as a "carryall", or are you going to use it as a "forklift" for lifting pallets/round bales, etc.?

Sorry for the long delay in replying as I have been pretty sick. I want to move pallets with firewood occasionally and some half or 1/3 pallets of landscape stone right now. After that, I will attach some planking or something to use it as a trailer of sorts. I have in mind filling it with downed branches an leaves, which I have an endless supply of, and dropping it at the burn pile or compost pit. I was kind of thinking of putting a big 3 sided bed of some sort just to move leaves. I wouldn't mind a towed dump type trailer of some sort but I think I will try the carryall because it is simple.

3x3x1/4 has serious strength. Should carry 1200 Lbs no problem. Maybe weld a doubler where the hitch pin holes will be, if the threads are long enough. Just as much of the strength is in the design and construction as the material. A small strap here and there to prevent the angle from splaying out can make a big difference.
