Hello all-
I am paying for not doing my homework and buying a VN orphan YM2200. Persistent problem with 3 pt lift being weak (wont fully lift my 5' brush hog) when oil is hot. Seems better when cold. FEL seems to be OK, I cannot tell a difference when hot or cold. Have completely changed oil, cleaned screen, replaced internal hydraulic ram with a tested used unit, then got the seals in it replaced (2 1/2 months) figuring the test was done with cold oil. No improvement. Implement will stay up when engine is shut down, suggesting no internal leaking. Lever linkage seems to be OK. Knobs under seat are properly adjusted. Used to work fine, so I assume FEL is plumbed appropriately.
Now what? I am wondering if it is the hydraulic pump, maybe just not putting out enough pressure and my 3 pt lift needs more than the FEL? Any way of testing it short of buying a new one? Any other parts or areas I ought to check?

Somwhere between those two points something changed. Did something happen to the unit that you know of? Anything? Any service, or changes of any kind?

If it weren't for "used to work fine" I would suggest incorrect fluid.

I put all new JD 303 hydraulic fluid in it. The thing seemed to be fine when I bought it, then a year later started getting bad after a friend used it to pull some stumps. Do not know exactly what he might have done to it. It then gradually weakened to where it would not work at all, so I am actually better now than before, but still not at full capacity.

I've only seen a couple dozen of these but it seems there is a (pressure) adjustment when you have the (3pt)valve body off. It has to be in that vincinity since the loader it working.

Hello-
Do not mean to profess ignorance and then tell you all about it, but it seems difficult to believe that the valve would go out of adjustment or that the adjustment would cause a difference between hot and cold performance. I am assuming it is the two screws and nuts inside that are locked with the folding edge washers that always say to me "do not mess with this".
What does anyone think about a poorly performing hydrauklic pump?

You have any idea how a relief valve works? It's spring pressure against a valve/seat, ... when oil pressure overcomes spring tension the relief cracks... Hot hyd oil is way thinner than cold hyd oil.. you can get sem real different results with either, according to the wear of all o fthe components in the system. and how bad certain parts leak... etc.

Not saying that is the problem. at hand..... just adressing the fact that hot or cold oil DOES/can effect hyd system performance.

Thanks for the info. I am a complete novice tractor mechanic trying to figure this thing out. Am probably going to try a hydraulic pump next. May not help, but working on the tail end has not yielded much results.

If the FEL is working properly I can assure you that your time(and money) will be wasted with a pump.

Could a bad valve on the FEL cause this? The high pressure line runs to it before going to the 3 point. How would I check? Is there some way to bypass the FEL?
