3 point hitch winch frame

Thanks for the additional pictures, Mudfarmer. The little winch isn't everthing but it's OK for now. If the 3000# winch doesn't hold up as well as I want, i'll move up to the 5600# winch provided I can make it fit!

Folks always say that you always wish for a bigger tractor, but in this case, i'll have to settle for a bigger winch someday.

Do you like the receiver mount? How well does it pull when the load is not in line?

I like using the receiver since I can move the winch from rig to rig and in a pinch (IE if i get stuck) I can use it with my clamp-on-bucket four inch receiver to help pull me out of the mud forward. I don't think it makes a difference in terms of pull direction and spooling. If I am a little out of alignment I slack off on the winch, pull out some line and guide it onto the spool evenly by hand until tension resumes. If the log is out a hundred feet I may have to do that a couple of times - easier than being more scientific in my alignment. Another advantage of the 2 inch receiver is that the 8000#winch is heavy. I can just comfortably lift it. If the frame (which i can also lift by itself) were attached to the winch I would be wallowing in the mud putting it on the tractor. Doing it in two steps: a-frame or boom first, then putting the winch in the receiver, is easier on my ol" back.

What happened, Matt? Did you get stuck?

Nope...it just would have made it easier to tweak some concrete slabs back into place as I rebuild my front walkway. Long story that requires me to build a photo album; but I needed to remove part of the walk to the front door. I saw this as an opportunity to move the entire sidewalk 3-feet further from the house from where the cheap-***** builder put it.

I can't afford a new walk being poured, so I cut the old one apart at the control joints, removed the slabs, graded the ground and now I'm putting them back in place.
