hey i am having trouble with my 3 point disc mower and i was wondering if anyone could help me with it. We got a 2009 dm 124 mower. the pto shaft keeps coming off and would like to learn more about how important the blades, bolts, nuts and washers are. thanks in advance

I would think if your shaft is coming off, then when you are attaching it, the locking pin is not engaging on the pto. Check the movement of the push pin and if it not moving freely lube it up. When attaching to the pto, make you sure you hear the click that tells you it is secure.

Also be sure the telescoping parts of pto shafts are lubed to relieve excess binding when shaft moves in/out while going over uneven terrain or when raising/lowering 3pt.

how often do you replace your blades, bolts, nuts and washers and how tight to you tighten them?

When the blades start to leave strips of uncut grass, you have got all the goody out of that side. Flip them over and use the other side. Keeping them sharp and out of the dirt will prolong their life. We always checked to see the bolts were tight and the blades were swinging freely before we mowed. Over time the skids will wear and you will need to change them. They are cheaper than the stuff they are protecting. We also had to build up the guard around the bolt heads with weld. If you let it get too low, the heads will wear off the bolts. But our mower was bought in 1978. The fact we have kept it going all these years is amazing.
