As @LS Tractor Owner states, that tip is the problem. I have never seen an auger tip like that.
If you must use that particular auger you could try hand digging a small hole that would allow the cutting edges to get a better initial bite.

With mine when the soil is too dry on clay soil with thick vegetation I need to add weight to it in order for it to start digging.

I’ve seen and used two augers with tips like that. When the ground is soft they work, but they are not a desirable auger.

The only thing is that is the only type of tip that will work on that auger. To switch to the screw tip you need to buy a different auger.
