Hi Guys,

I am wondering about the capability of the 2520 and a rear PTO Chipper. I have a 72" MMM on my tractor and for as being underpowered for mowing, it's not...cuts tall grass in low range going uphill at full speed in a single bound!

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a Bearcat 73554 that they have used on a 2520? The Bearcat has a 5" capacity and I am interested in hearing if that is too much for the 2520. I have seen that model at a local JD dealer on a 3520. My dealer said it will go right on my machine. Thanks for all whom post.

I've got a DR 4" chipper/shredder and the 2520 doesn't even flinch, you should be fine with the Bearcat I'd imagine. Enjoy the top discharge, that's one thing that I don't like about the DR. :)

Who in their right mind would dare say the 2520 is underpowered? :D

As for the Bearcat - it looks like it can handle it no problem - but I cant find the suggested PTO rating for that unit -

Hi:

I have run a DR 4" chipper/shredder (Rated 19-45hp) on my 2305 and it runs like a champ. (Except for having to jump the seat safety switch).

I don't think you'll have any problem with a 5" chipper on the 2520.

Larry - welcome to tbn - you might want to try the search function - I posted a review of the bearcat 73554 used on my TC18 (18HP, 14.5 PTO) - a 4" dry hardwood branch will stall it after about 5feet if you don't stop it from feeding (either precut the bigger stuff into more bite sized pieces or pull it back when the motor slows down). Great chipper.

Here's my review ChipZilla
Doug_Norman also has one - his review here Bearcat Chipper Review

MY 2520 spins my DR Chipper like nothing. It only takes 4.5 inch wood, but the only way to make the motor work is to chip dry-hard woods. Anything green goes right through even at 4.5 inches.
Our 2210 powered the DR chipper pretty well too, but this 2520 has been SMOKING the belt on the DR, so its got way more torque.
Don't hold back, get that chipper, because power is not lacking.

My 4010 with 18.5 engine hp runs my MacKissic chipper with up to 3.5" limbs with no problem at all. The power requirement goes up by the square root of the diameter. So, a 5" chipper should only require 22 engine hp, assuming the same engine/PTO ratio for the 2520 vs. the 4010. Should be the case for any HST tractor (same engine/PTO ratio).

I've NEVER bogged the MacKissic on the 4010 at all. With a 12 hp Gravely, I'd bog a similar MacKissic on it (no chipper; no shredder) and frequently bogged a TroyBilt with 8 hp engine on up to 2" limbs.

Your 2520 could probably even drive a Jinma that takes up to 6" limbs. A friend of mine has 3 JDs, and he ran the Jinma on his smallest 25 hp model.

The specs say it would be a good fit. That chipper weighs 720 lbs, so you'll want weights on the front (maybe the loader will be enough).

How much is the dealer asking?

Thanks for the posts guys.

Roy, my dealer is asking $4,275. Seems like alot for an implement without a motor or hydraulics. The dealer said he ordered it for a gentleman whom ordered it for a 2305, because Bearcat told my dealer it would work. Well, my dealer said it does not work on a 2305 and because of that the gentleman walked from the deal. Now the dealer has been stuck with this unit since last fall.

How much have some of you other Bearcat owners paid?
