In 1985 I was 32. I loved shifting gears when I was young, too. Now that I am much older and fluffier, I like my remote controls, automatic transmissions, hydraulic everything, and this meat head loves his HST.

:laughing::thumbsup: I can sure identify with that. I ran gears on everything but our SCUT until I was in my 60's and bought my first HST "tractor" L5030. Now I run an M8540 Hydraulic Shuttle 12/12 and L5740; like them both. We still own the old crash box tractors, but I had to quit driving them.

one thing i do not like, is over heating the transmission with hydrostatic transmissions. (running to high of a gear, and going up to steep of a hill and/or to much load) a hydro will slip and you may not notice, compared to a geared transmission were the engine will begin to bog down.

I am only on my first tractor, so I can't speak more generally, but it's always pretty obvious to me when I'm putting the transmission into relief. I back off on the HST pedal until RPMs recover and speed picks back up, or I down-shift.

Right. Because nobody ever rolled tractors back before HST.
