Last time I used my 175 hour old 2320, ( about a week ago) I had no problems. Went to start it today, and I found I had left the key in the ON position, and it would not turn over. The battery volatge was about 2.5volts. Jumped it from my car, and it would stiil not turn over, no clicking, no sounds, nothing. Battery voltage with the jumpers in place was 13.5 volts. Is the battery shorted? Any other ideas?

Probably a dumb question, but are you sure you have the transmission in neutral, and the PTO button off? Can't see why the battery would short out, just from being discharged.

I know I've done things like that before.

Bad connections. Either at the jumper or tractor heavy cables or both.

You may have also toasted that battery. I'd replace it with a known good one and toss that dead one on a charger for a while and see if it will recover.

My 2320 had the starter motor 'die' after 300 hours. Wouldn't spin fast even with a new battery jumped straight to the starter lug from a running tractor.
Don't ask how much the replacement cost me.

Remove and charge the old battery. Then bring it to a garage to get it tested on a load-type battery tester.

I recharged the battery, and it started up fine. Still don't know why it would not start when I jumped it from my car. Could that happenif the battery was very dead?

Thanks for the help.

Yes. It takes awhile, if the battery severely drained to take back enough charge to get you going. The initial crank on a battery is high.
I prefer a battery charger to jumping.
Glad you back running and A OK.

The OEM JD batteries are well know for failing without warning-at a young age also. Be prepared to buy a new one soon.;)

The jumper cables were good. I measured 13.5 volts on the battery terminals when the jumpers were on. I think bp fick was right, the battery was very drained.

Again, thanks for the help.
