I have a four year old 2320 and last week the tachometer quit working. I checked the fuses and they are all okay. Where is the next place to do some
checking before I take it to my dealer?

You got me curious so I began looking in my service and parts list manuals. It looks to me that the tachometer is mechanical. So you have three places to look bad meter - bad mechanical cable or pick off at the engine.
I would go behind the panel and unscrew the cable at the meter. Then start the engine and check if the cable inner core is turning. If not then the problem is probably with the cable. On my car speedometers, which use a similar system, I've had cable breaks several times. You might try putting some lubricant down the cable if you think that might help.
It's possible that an auto speedometer cable migh work and that would probably be cheaper that JD.

I appreciate the tips. I thought the tach would be electronic. It is most likely the cable; I'll check it out today. I am not so worried about knowing the rpm's as much as keeping track of the hours. I'll let you know what I find.

Register at www.jdparts.com my freind;)

It is the same basic system the dealer uses, and it's FREE! There is a quick tutorial linked in my signature if you need help with it.
