You could buy one now, drive it for 22 months, and sell it as a current year truck.

It isn't really here and available to buy yet, is it? The Ram web site says "...is coming".

But Ford has done this type of early release before. Can't remember exactly but I think it was something like the 2007 F150 coming out in Jan 2006. I agree that it is really too early and they should stick to a more standard schedule or it gets confusing.

Thanks for the video link. Overall it looks like they have some good improvements along with a few gimmicky things. Crew cab is 4" longer, along with overall truck and wheelbase. Didn't think the cab of the crew actually needed more room. Would have preferred it in the bed length. They claim 1500 towing maxes out at 12,700. That's quite a bit for a half-ton. I've pulled north of 11k with my 2010 1500 Hemi before (short distances, not much highway) and would say that pushing 13k would not be a comfortable thing. Saw that they have rear steps mounted under the bumper. I'd love those with my 2500 since that thing is TALL! But I really worry how well they could hold up with the salty Minnesota winter roads. They mentioned some hybrid thing available that sounds fairly dubious. If you watch the vid check out that part.

Overall, nothing I see makes me sad that I bought a 2017. Not saying the new one isn't nice, but not nice enough for me to envy. By the way, they said the 2019 would be available for delivery at the end of first quarter.

I agree, headed down to TSC to get 7 foot tposts and they of course don't fit easily, maybe on a 45.
It's like our loaves of bread or our cans of soup aren't what they used to weigh...the beds of the pickups are no longer 8 feet.

I wonder if even half of p/u truck owners ever get their beds dirty though and are more concerned with parking issues.
This group clearly gets dirty but then we are active. They sell so many trucks today because they now have them decked out like
luxo barges, not work trucks. I know, I drive one and boy is it comfortable, and quiet. But my bed has dirt, fertilizer, wood chips and mulch bits, like
most of yours.

Other than safety equipment/adaptive cruise, I can't see a reason to go new either.
Don't think what is now the "older style" Ram is going out of style any time soon.

Myself I'm waiting for the Chevy "19s" with the talk that they will have an inline 6 diesel.
I have a 15 RAM ecodiesel Big Horn and while I like my truck for the most part with the upper trim levels RAM
sticks you with the Borg Warner 44-44 transfer case which has the auto mode in it which does away
with a true locked in 4wd which has bitten me in the a** a few times.
As far as the bed length I would like another foot or two any ways and I also don't see the need for 4 more inches in the cab.
I get lots of practice tying things down to keep them in the truck with the tail gate down

Lou, what has your fuel mileage been like on that ecodiesel and did it turn out to be powerful enough? thanks

I filled the bed of my Ram this morning with all kinds of junk from Lowes plus picked up 15 tposts at TSC. Really looked like Harry Homeowner going home.
Warm enough to roll the window down for awhile hear the hemi working through the gears, and once again I thought to myself,
this is a nice truck... ride was smooth and didn't jostle my flowers too badly...

I do think the air bag suspension adds a little roly poly edge to the handling,
but that same compliance also gets rid of those jiggles and neck jerks I got with my dually.
At least with the Michelins the truck continues to ride exceptionally well.

I have been pleased with the ecodiesel performance and mileage, in the winter I run about 20 mpg, summer 24mpg, that doesn't sound good till
I explain it a bit. I have the 3.92 gears, I got rid of the wide 20" tires and wheel and dropped down to 245/7R17 which are about the height of the lower trim base tire
but narrower, I have almost no sand driving but lots of field and woods roads with mud and rocks, and I've always had better luck with the narrower tires.
I also do a lot of short trips and idling. I occasionally will haul wagons with it and a stock trailer. This little motor of 3 liters (183 cu.in.) with 420 lb/torque @1800 rpm and 240 HP
pulls out like an old big block it doesn't need lots of rpm to do its job. I have never had a problem getting up to speed and holding it even with a trailer, I did one run to Maine with an empty trailer and back with an Isuzu Trooper (appox. 6000 pounds ) averaged 18 mpg on that trip and didn't need to use the slow lanes on the hills. A round bale trailer with a dozen large round bales and trying to keep it down to 25-30 mph I had to manually lock the trans down to the lower gears as it kept trying to creep up to fast.
As a base for mileage with my driving style my Dakota 4.7 and 5 speed was just barely at 16 mpg, my F150 was 14 mpg, my Chev K20's and 2500 were and are 8 to 14.
So all in all I am pleased with my truck.
