2011 Ram Chassis Cab

Im not too fimilar with the new CC trucks but I know my 1979 Chevy American LaFrance fire truck is a CC and I was going to put a regular dually bed on it but, My mechanic told me that they used a narrowed rear axle and I would have some clearance issues if i were to attempt it. Like I said Im not sure about the new CC but this is how the old were.

As Dmace stated doing a pickup conversion with a cab and chassis is tough. I know a guy with a 2002 F-550 that he put a bed on. He had to do a body lift to the cab because the frame rails have such a high arch over the rear axle. Issue is no one makes a lift kit for a F-550 so he used a F-350 plus tons of custom parts. He used a SRW Superduty bed with aftermarket dually fender.

I would guess all said and done they had a few hundred hours making work and look right. Its a towing beat though.

Mr Jimi was doing nearly the same thing till he passed. RIP

Aren't all C&Cs narrow frame? and Narrow axles? I am curious how it looked when t was done.

Yes the frame is narrower. It takes a lot of work to do it. I am not sure if the axles are narrower or not. I am sure he did not have to do anything to the axle to it.

It looks great. 9 out of 10 people would think its factory built like I said he had something like 200 hours in it. It has 4 exhaust tips that come out right in-front of the passengers rear wheel. Has a great sound.

I think anything bigger than a 1 ton has the industry standard 34" frame spacing and a 60" cab to axle, makes it easier to mount aftermarket beds. Most of them have flat frame rails behind the cab to facilitate bed mounting. This is what makes it hard to use a standard pickup bed on them.

Also people want pick up beds cause they look good.

Kinda hard getting a date driving a flatbed, utility body or dump around :D

JB.

Come on now, all you gotta do is keep it clean and pretty. Heel prints are hard to get out of the headliner though :)

After putting a custom bed on a my CCf450 I will find it hard to go back to a truck with a bed. I like a pickup bed but a dump with toolboxes has been the best setup ever. I wish I had done it sooner. We use it as a personal truck and service truck. CC is not a everyday grocery getter but for farm or construction work they really shine.
