2006 5254 Transaxle

Cub5K,

Nice work. I've had a few issues with my 6284, but nothing serious or expensive to remedy. Overall it has been great for me. The bad reputation and poor resale value let me buy it for a fraction of what I would have spent for anything comparable in any other brand. I'm sorry to hear the bad experiences of others but I'm very pleased with mine.

BTW - I see your dog likes to help you with your projects just like mine does.

There's a lot of those stories but I also see a whole lot of the 5000 series still around. I bought one in 2004 and have worked it way beyond its design with no problems. I even dug the hole for our inground pool with it. I discovered that my axle broke because the differential lock was sticking and I didn't realize it. A bunch of crud had built up where the diff lock cable goes into the trans causing it not to release. Pushing and lifting a lot of snow on asphalt and it let go. Can't complain too much though because the axle replacement only took 30 minutes.

Ditto. My first Cub Sub-compact was a 2004 5234 with loader that I did LOTS of loader work, now that I think back maybe overworked it...but, never had a problem with it. Sold that one, now have a 2007 5234 that I just use for plowing/blowing/mowing, and loaders on my 6284 and 7532.....never had problems with any of them.
I'd put any of my 3 against Kubota, Deere, or anything else. My opinion is they're just as good, not as expensive. I checked out a JD 4310 extensively (actually bought it for my dad) but prefer my 7532 hands down.
