Price Check 2004 John Deere LX280 value??

Hello. I need to sell my JD LX280. Purchased it new in 2004 and it now has 168 hours. Just moved into village and this is now overkill for what I need. I paid $4500 for it now. Local dealer said the tractor is in exceptional shape, but told me it's worth $1400. I see these same tractors listed online for as much as $3200 with most in the $2500-$3000 range. Any idea on the value difference??

Welcome to TBN. Looks to be in nice shape. Unfortunately, because these lawntractors can be bought on payments thru big box stores, it is much harder to sell them to someone, for cash, in a lump sum. I would list it in the high range of what you think it might be worth, and come down in price weekly, til it sells.

Thanks for the advice. It is true that the John Deere you can get at the big box stores are the same (quality) as what you get from a traditional JD dealer? I've always thought of the big box options as a good tractor, but a lesser quality which is why they sell for considerably less. The D160 I see @ Lowes has the hydrostatic drive and is a 48" cut (which is what my LX280 has) and is $2600 new. This is a full $2k less than I paid for my LX280 a while ago. Unless you need some industrial features (like snow blower, etc..) it's probably hard to justify buying my old one for that much I'm guess. Hmmm.
