I'd like to make an adapter to put a quick hitch on my loader arms. I think it should be made of 1 x 3 or 2 x 4 steel tube that I don't have, however I do have some 2" I-beam. Is this strong enough?

Thanx
M.D.

How about some pics of what your talking about. Do you mean a quick attach hitch or a receiver hitch?

I want to put a 3 point quick hitch on the loader arms so I can attach my boom pole and carry all to the front of the tractor.

There is not enough info given to answer your question accurately:

What thickness is the steel on the I-Beam material?
What will the overall span be?
How much will the FEL lift?
How heavy are the implements you intend to lift?

But it "sounds" to me, if I have an accurate mental picture of what your trying make that it will not be strong enough. 2x3 box would be best, and I think you already know that:D

MD;

I just made a 3 point hitch adapter (non quick hitch) for my Kubota B7100. I used 1/4" thick steel throughout. The main frame is 4"x 3" x 1/4" angle and the cross members are 3" x 3" angle and 3" x 3" x 1/4" tube. The whole thing weighs about 80lbs and is rigid enough that when you pull on the adapter the tractor itself moves and only then as a result of the "bounce" factor of the turf tires. If you are going to be lifting anything heavy at the end of your boom pole, it's going to make a lot of demand on the attachment point. I ended up using 1/4" because that was the thicness of the mounting flanges on the back of my bucket.

Cheers, Erik

The I-beam is 2" wide, 2-1/4 high and 3/16 thick. I want to make something like Eric made but it would attach to the quick tach mounting points on the loader arms. I have some 4 x 4 x 1/4 angle but only short pieces. It's a JD 420 loader so I can't pick up too much weight, probably around 800 lbs max...if that. There's an auction this Saturday that has some square steel tube, I'll check that out.
