2 digit vs 3 digit F models

Does anyone know what the distinction is between a 2 digit (ie. F/FX 24) vs. a 3 digit (ie. F/FX235) ?

Most of the lists I've seen, Yanmar Owners, Hoye, etc., seem to list the 2 digit, but few, if any, 3 digit models.

The 3 digit models are just a newer model than the 2 digit models. More electronic "goodies" on the 3 digit than the 2 digit models.
