1981 John Deere 2040 with over heating problem

Looks like I have the same problem, would it be possible to repair this without removing the entire column?

One can remove steering wheel then remove large nut then rotate shaft CCW & shaft with 2 valve bodies then shaft with bodies will come out of housing. With the aid of a good, long pick the six large o-rings can be R&R from each land. After R&R of o-rings reinstall shaft with valve bodies after applying hyd oil to exterior of valve bodies. If upon extended engine operation if one then detects heat & if o-rings were installed correctly then valve bodies are probably at fault. Valve bodies part # is AR81610 @ $1,409.43 each If valve bodies are removed from shaft be sure to record shim locations!!!!!
