1641 hydraulic leak

Just bought a used 1641 and have a leak around the differential hub (think that's what ya call it). Also, can't find the hydraulic fill.

Does anyone have a schematic of how to get to this area? Where can I get a service manual....the lawn tractor is about 85-86 vintage....

If you have the filter and type of hydraulic fluid required it would be helpful to get started. Afraid to operate the unit; might cause some transmission damage.

Most CUb hydrostatic drives of that vintage use Hy-Tran hydraulic fluid which is much, much cheaper than the synthetic oil used in the newer ones. I'm not that familiar with the 1641 but look for a pipe plug on the rear of the differential. A 3/8 ratchet drive will fit it. Fill with oil to the bottom of the hole.

I had a 1541 which is basically the same tractor. The dipstick and fill is located under the seat. You have to move the seat forward using the lever under the front of the seat. Then flip the seat up and you should see the dipstick.

I found the dip stick under the seat as posted by "flyboy", but first had to lube the seat tracks and beat it with a two by four to get it to move forward; now I get nothing (no panel lights) when I turn the key on. I may have messed up the seat safety switch....any tips on that?
I checked with Gunk corporation's chemist and they don't make a seal conditioner for gear boxes that don't have a pump. The pump apparently keeps their product mixed in solution. So I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Jim
