1500 Hydraulic adjustment

Whenever I raise the 3 pt hitch to its highest position I can hear a continuous whine, apparently from the hydraulic pump. Moving the lever slightly forward stops the noise. There is a linkage on the upper arm which is activated as the arm moves to the top of its range. It appears to me that that linkage might be adjusted to deactivate the pump when the arms are at the top limit. Is this correct?

I think you're got'er diagnosed. Sounds like that adjustment is letting it open the relief valve.
