116h pto (pretty ticked off)

I have a real head scratcher, I have a 1983 116h with and opposing twin briggs. I have been chasing a problem releated to the pto. I can run ithe tractor for hours (just finished grading the gravel driveway) but when I engage the pto for mowing it stalls out. It has been getting proggressively worse, as of last fall I could mow for about 30 minutes and it would "overheat" the pto and stall, after a minute to cool, I could fire it up just fine and run it without the pto, as soon as I engaged the pto it would run for several minutes and stall again. When it stalls, I have power, will not crank, no lights, nothing. After a minute I hear a small click below the battery, as soon as it clicks, it will start just fine. I replaced the circuit breaker, thinking that was it, nothing. I checked the coil and it checked out fine. I am stuck. Any help would be greatly apprecciated. Thanks in advance.

Electric PTO? If so, sounds like it needs replaced.

It was working for a while, just today it started to stall when the pto was engaged. Is it possible that it is out of adjustment. Would a stator failing be an issue?

Or a bearing gone bad?
Sounds like it could be a number of things.

Thanks for the welcome. I will check the air gap on the pto when i get back out to the barn. Thank you for the replies.
