    I have almost the identical set-up;shoes don't help much until the ground is frozen. Just too much weight.I use a rear blade when things aren't frozen or the ATV. An edge guard(pipe) may help or gauge wheels.

    I put a Green's Machine's thumb on my L4240 bucket+tooth-bar.Reinforce the top of the bucket,I made mine a bolt on/off if needed. Had the third function already for my snow plow. Next best thing to a full grapple,not quite the opening but a lot cheaper.Best thing I have added to mine.

    What happens when you can get through with a V plow?I would thing it would take a lot of weight and speed to work well. If your straight blade is "flopping"you need stiffer springs or it's a fixed down and not floating.All truck plows float on a chain;I built mine the same and it works well.
