Plowing a 1/4 mile hilly driveway

Tracked equipment only works decently in slippery conditions if the tracks are equipped with cleats. Bulldozers are a good example as they are almost universally metal tracks and big metal cleats on each track piece. Depending on where in the state you are, NYS has a lot of variability when it...

Realistic $ for a reliable tractor?

I paid $18,000 for a brand new Bobcat CT230 back about 10 years ago. Came with an FEL and a backblade. Nice thing about new is that you don't get someone else's problems, and you get a longer useable lifespan on the equipment. But it does cost more money. USAF figured 1200 hrs per year was...

    Tractor Rollover

Speed + dips, holes, rocks, bumps, and slipperiness are your nemesis when operating anywhere near rollover point. You can go from doing just fine to looking at tractor and sky over you in seconds. And CG can change simply based on how much fuel you have in the tractor. My recommendation is get...

    Remounting front tire

I spun the tire off the wheel on the rear of my tractor a few winters ago. Tire was a bit low, and the sub zero temps deflated what was left. Beet juice makes getting good seal nearly impossible. Hosed it off and ended up taking the tire and wheel to a nearby truck tire place for them to...

    Trailer as a bridge

Semi-trailer twin I-beams make nice small bridges, and generally should last 20 to 50 years, depending on how well you maintain them (rust proofing, especially the support ends, and deck protection.) For comparison, wooden bridges generally only last about 10 years before they fail, unless they...

Garden tractors? At a cross roads, need some other heads to bounce ideas with

You do what you have to do. Trying to do jobs with too little tractor is a good way to break or destroy the machine and possibly hurt yourself or anyone else nearby. That's why the consistent advice here is to get the next size up tractor than your biggest job needs. Financing always sucks...

Hydraulic Line Leaks: (Cracked Welds, Not O-Rings) for Bobcat CT-230 (or CT-235)

Don't put you hand on the area where the leak is coming from. You don't want to inject hydraulic fluid into your hand! However, push and pull on the tube a bit. That may cause the leak to slow, stop, or increase. If it increases, then it's probably a cracked weld and you should replace the tube.

One Tractor To Do It All?

My Bobcat CT230 (Kioti DK25) would mow 6 acres with a hog just fine, and it does a decent job of plowing my 1400 foot dirt driveway with the FEL and a backblade. (Also did a nice job moving 13 truck loads of crushed stone base when I upgraded the drive.) The problem is, you want filled tires...

Are diesel conditioners needed for new

Here in southern NH, I just run plain old diesel in my Bobcat CT230. The most time the fuel will sit in the tractor is maybe a month if I'm not using it much. Longest I've had any fuel sit in the plastic jerry cans in the garage is 4 months (2, 5 gallon cans) Never had a problem.
  19. Dr_Zinj

    Tractor idling

If it's for less than a couple of minutes, I'll let it idle. More than that, I'll shut it down unless it's sub zero weather. The cost of diesel fuel is the main driver, and I dislike stuffing $50 bills in my tank.

    Snow Tractor won’t start tonight.

There may be a safety switch for the transmission under the tractor that has a chunk of ice/snow/branches/whatever jamming it form closing. I occasionally run into that problem with my Bobcat CT230 after pulling logs through the puckerbrush.

Tractor Sizing How Much Can A Sub Compact Tractor lift?

How much can your FEL lift? It depends. Your bucket/forks/etc usually have a separate weight rating, how many pounds they can use before the bucket won't rotate.
