I got both of my motorcycle out, I love this time of the year but snow is surely taking it's time to disappear
I’ve been looking at the Tenere 700 for a cross country bike. Not sure the FZ09 or 1125R would be the best choice for a trip across the US
These are 3 choice very different from each other... for the T7 would depend on the type of road, if you do interstates the whole way I would say it's not fast enough... the FZ09 I would think it's the worse choice here especially for luggage capacity.... I've never ran a super sport bike for a long time so I am not sure on how bad it gets on them, some people love it some hate it....
Id take highway 50, for my 50th birthday
Well, I own an FZ09, and MAX fuel range is 130mi on a tank.then I would say the T7 is a great choice, the only thing you might not like is the fuel range... the FZ09 is promising, it would certainly be a fun bike but with the luggage capacity issues and comfort it might not be the best choice....
ha ... worse then the T7... which is 140 to 170 milesWell, I own an FZ09, and MAX fuel range is 130mi on a tank.

I do see on the T7 forums, lots of guys getting 200 miles. Most say the light comes on at maybe 160-170, but then the bike has 3/4 gallon left in it. That's a good 200 mile range, if needed.
Of course it will depend on how one rides and even rider weight. I at least have the advantage of being 150 pounds, 160 geared up.
yeah that's what they say but speed will affect it greatly, only go a few miles a hour faster and you wont get that .... I think they baby it pretty good to get that much out of it, my light once came on shortly after 120 miles and yes that was fast gravel road driving.
How much fuel is in the tank when the light comes on?
Highway 50 is doable, with even 100 miles, but I don't consider the FZ09 a comfortable long rage bike, or capable of any sporadic off pavement fun. I need something a little more swiss army knife, less razor blade
You are spot on about the seat.I think a T700 would make a nice bike to travel across country on. They have plenty of power and have a nice riding position. Only issues I'd have might be the stock seat and lowish top gear (I put a Seat Concepts and 16T sprocket on mine), and the 4.2 gallon tank is just adequate but there are bladders or Rotopax you can carry on the long stretches for piece of mind. And of course you'll have to carry tubes along with tools and irons to remove the wheels and tires.

The fuel gauge on mine was deceptive. Wouldn't register fuel depletion for a bit then all of a sudden I'd lose a bar every 20 miles. If memory serves me correct full was 6 bars, when I got to 3 or 2 I'd fill it. 2 bars left was probably around 130 miles ridden. Fuel economy was outstanding, though, at around 54mpg.
Since you have an FZ09 how about an FJ09? Just another option.
