My apologies in advance if this is the wrong section, tractor data says it the same as the NH TC24DA ... Is it? Are there still parts available? Is there any relationship to the LS tractors?

I'm looking for another little tractor, don't need or want a loader or mower ...

I see this CaseIH Farmall DX24 listed on tractor house -

It looks like it has a finish mower on the back, but listing doesn't say either way if it's included or not, my guess is it is ...

They are asking $6K, it has 480 hours on it, and seems to be in good condition ... Does it sound like it's worth driving 700 miles round trip to look at it?

I'm just having a tough time finding a older no mmm and loader tractor, prefer HST ... If mower does go with it, I probably could sell it after I retire in 2 years ... Or hopefully better yet, get them to knock off the price a bit ...

Definitely worth looking at. I have the Farmall 40 that i got use and it has been a really nice machine. Made by Shibaura, parts are readily available. I get mine from either our local NH dealer or from Messics online. I believe this is a pre LS tractor and is the same as the NH TC. The price is subject to what you are willing to pay.

Tractor data says it's made by CaseIH but has a Shibaura engine ... Is that what Case/NH/LS is currently using for engines?

Are they good engines?

I see a bunch of the Old Ford 1700 series in my area, but my understanding was that they no longer have any parts support ... So don't want to go too old, or an obsolete tractor.

That tractor was made by Shibaura, as was the New Holland Boomer's of that era. Shibaura also made the old Ford compacts.
The new Farmall's and NH compacts are made by LS.
Personally I really like those old Shibaura built Farmall's and Boomers. I wanted to buy one back in the day, but I had no good dealers anywhere around me. Basically couldn't even find one in an 8 hour radius that even seemed interested in selling me one.

Here are a few of the "Old Fords" ... Some of them have quite impressive number of hours! But I've read that it's hard to get parts from a dealer for them, and mostly have to rely on junkyards ... Is that true?

Primary purpose of this tractor will be running a 48" tiller, then a 60" land plane, so want a narrow tractor ...

I would go for it if it looks the same in person, the Shibaura tractors are almost bulletproof. It is the basically the same as the NH TC equivalent, just in red paint. Parts are available for the most part. Some complete assemblies are no longer available, but the individual parts for them are available.

It will be a long day on my day off from work, but I'm a truck driver and 700 miles is usually a full day for me, but I don't have a governor or logbook in my pickup!

I should be home next week, and hope to buy a tractor on those few days off ...

The dealer I bought my used Kubota from also sells NH, they are about 50 miles away through the back country, they have a few other dealerships in Missouri, there closest one is maybe 35 miles up the interstate from me, and there is a Case dealer about 60 miles the opposite way ...

And if Messick's also has parts ... I already order some Kubota parts from them ... It could work out, I think I'll try to remember to call on this one on Friday ... Hopefully they will discount it without the finish mower!

There are two closer than this, one a Kubota with a complicated expensive optional front "Bi-speed" axle, and a Massey Ferguson with only 17 HP and a gear transmission, which I'd rather not have ... But neither have a mower, which I don't need or want. Why pay for something that I'm not gonna use?!

Nice looking tractor. Is this what you want to end up using for mowing? I know I would want a Cab with A/C for that. And you're not getting any younger (last I checked... )

Nope, primarily used for rototilling and land planing the driveway, so I can leave my backhoe on more ... As I've found its handy to have a BH !

This is what I'm mowing the fields with ... 90" finish mower.

I'm just debating do I really want to spend one of my very few days off, to drive 700 miles for a tractor ... ?

I'll play "devil's advocate" with you. Since you already have tractors... How would a mini excavator fit in with your equipment on your current property and future retirement plans you have eluded to? I mean a good Kubota or whatever, not one of the low price point auction deals. Although those seem to work for some people and would sure beat a mattock and a shovel.

When I moved back into the family property back during the pandemic it was an overgrown jungle. I went with a KX-057 mini excavator and a small B2601 tractor. It was and still is a good combination for me. The mini has been way more useful than I ever imagined and allowed me to do big projects like culvert replacements and field tile that would have been astronomically expensive. It has also helped me get by with the tiny B2601.

I've tossed the thought of a mini -x around for awhile, but really can't see what I do with it ... Sure it will dig better and have better choices of where to place the spoils, but I'm not sure that it's really worth it to me to have one, instead of or in addition to my TLB backhoe I already have now ...

I really like my BH, it's extremely versatile ... Just today I took it off and went rototilling, since I don't have a third tractor yet ...

My "problem" is that is about half of what my garden will be once I retire, the pile of dirt on the right is what I've screened already ... The dirt I'm rototilling is very rocky, and is the spoils from a driveway ditch project I did when I bought the place ...

So I'm trying to keep the weeds down, so when I do have time, I can screen more of it, weeds and roots plug up the screen!

Once that is done I will dig out the actual ground about 8" and screen that, then put the good screened dirt back in and have a vegetable garden, hopefully it will be even with the rest of the ground ... Some days I think I have more rocks than dirt!

Yes, a mini could dig out the actual ground, and probably dump it on my screen ... But doesn't seem worth it to me for the small amount of work I'd have for it ...

This CaseIH Farmall is about the size of your B, my Massey is like a BX, my Kubota is a Grand L ...
