I checked with chatgpt AI to find out how to disable the Stop/Start on my 2017 Cadillac XT5. It gave me the answer in a second. Said I could buy a short cable from Amazon to disable it. Bought one and installed it and hallelujah, no more S/S. Another thing I don't have to worry about failing. Thank you President Trump.

We have huge trucks for two reasons. First, there is more profit in making/selling big vehicles than small ones. Second, there are almost no smaller alternatives available.

Here on TBN, we are a special case. Many of us need big vehicles because we WORK them. Unfortunately, an awful lot of Nimitz Class SUVs, some of them big enough to have their own zip codes, get bought by people who drive them to WalMart and the only time they go off-road is when they park on the lawn at a yard sale.

A few days ago I saw a new-ish Suburban with a dually kit and fender flares . . . I mean, come ON!

History repeats itself. When Japanese cars started arriving here, they were met with almost universal derision. After a few years people realized that these cars were actually a lot better, a lot more economical, and a lot less expensive than the domestic offerings, and they bought a LOT of them. Detroit absolutely got knocked back on their heels and only recovered when they started offering domestic products that were almost as good. Detroit realized that there were superior alternatives to what they were offering, and if they wanted to survive, they would have to sharpen up their game.

This is going to happen again with Chinese cars. We can't get them because of protective tariffs. If Detroit is smart, they will use the breathing space to up their game again and be ready for the inevitable invasion (again) of cars and trucks that are a lot better, a lot more economical, and a lot less expensive than what they are offering us.

Make no mistake, while some of the older Chinese cars were pretty unimpressive, some of the new ones are very good indeed. The president of Ford has a BYD "for evaluation" and doesn't want to give it back - and he can drive anything Ford produces because he's the boss.

Chinese cars are all over Europe, Mexico, Central America, Australia, and are coming to Canada. People in the rest of the world are not stupid, they know a good deal when they see one, and they are voting with their wallets.

When we start getting Chinese cars here - and it isn't "if", it is "when", domestic automakers will have a couple of choices - adapt and compete, do joint ventures ("If you can't beat 'em, join 'em) or go out of business.

Personally, I'd prefer to see them pick number one. I'd be quite happy to buy a quality, dependable, reasonably priced domestic product and help support American workers and businesses. BUT the time for them to get on the stick is NOW, not when the tariffs go away (and they will) and the local product is stuck firmly in the past while the better and less expensive imported product is light-years ahead.

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida

I remember driving cars in 1990's Germany, that had a total displacement nearing that of each cylinder in some of my American cars. :ROFLMAO:

I remember one of my coworkers had a car with 800 or 900 cc displacement. I remember telling him, "my car has exactly the same displacement... per cylinder!".
When I was in Austria license fee calculated on engine displacement and insurance calculated on horsepower… thus discouraging high performance large displacement motors.

Also the import duty for an American car was 100% and the sales tax 32%

Jeeps cost more than Mercedes G wagons built in Austria.

The one saving grace is you could own and drive up to 3 cars with the same license plates moving from car to car and you paid only for the most expensive for insurance and license…

I HIGHLY doubt you are going to see DPF's and regens go away. Everything I have heard is they are just going to make them not derate if they have an issue.

But I will say, if a miracle does happen and I can get a new Kubota without a DPF....I will be going to buy immediately.

But in reality, no engine manufacturer is going to eliminate DPF's and SCR. They have spent billions in development over the last several years so no way they will eliminate it only to have the next government mandate it again.

And I would like to see actual hard data that this stupid and universally-hated auto-stop/start feature acually does anything to help the environment.
New Subarus have this. Our salesman said he saved 1/5 gallon in 6 months. Granted, we're in a semi-rural area where sitting in stop and go traffic for half an hour is not a thing. We turn ours off because in the 30 miles from here to town, there are 3 stop signs and one traffic light.

It's about incremental gains. 1 gallon per driver per year, times a million drivers, adds up.

I may be wrong, but I bought a new Ford Edge last year and I thought the dealer told me that the Stop/Start function could easily be turned off and if I wanted it done, they would do it?

I know this is where someone is going to bring up Henry Ford's most famous quote.
Quoting myself, here. But I wonder how many posts or pages will pass, before someone asks about or cites Henry Ford's most famous quote. :D

I just negated all his environmental impact with all the idling and foot to the floor driving I do daily, LOL

So does the increased use of other resources due to the use of SS. Just the increased amount of landfill due to prematurely worn out equipment due to SS is/will be significant.

... and we've come full circle, as I posted the same as a question, a few pages back.

I honestly don't know if auto-stop/start is a net gain or net loss, once you figure in starter wear and all factors surrounding that. But I sure would like to see some actual data on that, not just best-guesses.

The previous democrat administration put the 100% tariffs on Chinese EV’s, not this one.
What makes you so confident they’ll “go away”? Who/what in the near future is going to pressure a reversal of that which is supported by both sides?

So he said with a straight face that he has “saved” 19 ounces of gasoline over a half year period? 😳
More than that, evaporates in the charcoal system depending on the weather 😄
He knows that number with certainty, how? 😄

I'm waiting for a new "K"-trucks! (miracles can happen!!)

I don't need a full size truck as I just don't have the acreage, I just need a parts getter and small farm truck that won't cost me $3000 to replace the "blend door".
I already have an older f-150 and is just too big most of the times and I usually need a 4x and if the father in-law hadn't given us his 2003 GMC 1/2 ton I would have already got one of the used K truck imports.
I had an old ranger and it was great for what I needed even tho I really needed a 4x but the grand kid needed a vehicle so I let him have it.

You can order a new one. At least it could be done a couple of years ago.

Registration could be an issue in many states, though. I've registered an older one here, and could most likely get the new one registered, too, but it's never driven on public roads so there's no reason to do it.

Henry had many Fordisms… I’ve got a book somewhere.

Now if you are thinking of the quote often attributed to him the Ford folks said Henry never said that regarding color.

Remember, all it will take is any lone unknown judge from any unknown district to trump any executive order, because Trump has already ceded that ground, saying that he will not question judicial supremacy, even when POTUS has clear Constitutional authority over executive agencies.

Plan accordingly, knowing that we just can't have nice things... not anymore.

"All https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/economy/regulation for vehicles and engines subsequent to the 2009 declaration will be rescinded, a source familiar with the situation said."
Jeeze!

Here we sit on Spaceship Earth and these guys are taking down the No Smoking Rules because corporations complained that the tax cuts and accelerated depreciation schedules weren't enough, their executives were only earning millions annually.

Moreover, such unilateral action as Fox celebrates in this video was attacked under Democratic Administrations as effectively castrating the legislative branch's responsibility. This decision on the impact of emissions from the president who claims water destroys magnets.

A president who has literally added trillions to our national debt, while taxing everything we import before we buy it - and pay a even more sales tax. His borrowing, coupled with the drop in interest rates is flooding the market and contributing to inflation day in and day out.

Today, I saw a sale on Coffee $11.99/26oz or $7.38/lb. I track my coffee purchases and found that three years ago, I paid $3.12/lb for the same brand (both 'on sale' at the time). That works out to a 237% price hike.

Our electric company just put in a request to increase our rates by fifteen percent.

From what I understand, these tariffs have rocked Farmers and the feds have had to come up with a program to bail them out - similar to what they (well, we - taxpayers) did to bail them out after Trumps deals during his first term.

Focus on the Trump/Vance/Epstein Files - that's what keeps him up nights for fear those redacted names see the light of day and we learn just how deep and wide the evidence truly is.

All this EPA S**t's just that, another distraction to rile up the base using 'influencer's' like 'TK's Garage' as their 'expert witness.'

Reminds me of the early days in emissions technology when you could set points on a Buick with a matchbook cover and my 'garage mechanic' fixed a rough idle by plugging up one of the 'new' rubber hoses leading to the carb - instead of actually correcting whatever needed to be adjusted - a Duh Mechanic.

Instead of learning how to fix the newer cars, he decried the technology and plugged this hose or that and took your money as he commiserated like a Luddite with the customer he just screwed out of thirty dollars or so.

They are transferring wealth from those of us who labor for a living to the fraction of us who simply live off clipping coupons and the trust fund Daddy left - Trump's simply the tool that has the hearts, minds and allegiance of the low information suckers who think the immigrants, the educated, and the unionized are the cause of their failures and misery.

But all the laws are passed by politicians who earned more from being in a position of power than the salary and benefits the people pay them to serve. because those who lobby for the One Percent help them make up the difference - we need to get the SuperPacs and secret/anonymous candidate and campaign funding out in the open; into the sunshine so we might return to the republican ideal of One Man; One Vote. Pass a law declaring Gerrymandering illegal in federal elections; abolish the Electoral College (when slavery ended, there was no need for 'the 2/3's balance') and the 'winner take all approach to presidential elections - we simply count up the votes and call a winner.

Found an easy way to disable auto-s/s on my new jeep. Just pull a wire on a pop-up button under the hood. If it thinks the hood is raised, it disables the defect (feature?). No more stalling engine when you stop.

And No more warming up the vehicle! The remote start, if equipped, will not work, sensing that the hood is open.
