YM226D Reverse Rotating and Running Away

/ YM226D Reverse Rotating and Running Away #21
I thought the procedure was like this,

Here is the process it describes for my tractor.
1) Shut off fuel and disconnect #1 injector line from pump
2) Unscrew delivery valve holder from pump and remove spring and delivery valve
3) Reinstall holder and copper washer
4) Attach a fabricated line onto pump #1 injector outlet
5) Place a ratchet and socket onto crankshaft nut
6) Rotate ratchet clockwise until #1 cylinder approaches TDC on compression stroke
7) Place small container under fabricated hose and turn on fuel

Comments
Since delivery valve was removed a steady stream of fuel will come out until crankshaft reaches a certain
point. At which fuel will slow and eventually stop. Disregard the last drop or 2.
The point at which fuel stops flowing is called the beginning of the injection cycle.
Once fuel stops completely check injector timing mark.
(its the one about 24 degrees BTDC which has a #1 stamped on it)
It should be aligned with the pointer.

If mark has gone past pointer remove shims, if it has not reached pointer add shims. 0.1mm shim is
about 1 degree

From the YTOG, here is the fuel pump service manual for the YM and early F/FX series.
It works like most Japan old fuel pumps or the Perkins diesel fuel pump.

I think both methods are describing the same moment. If you remove the delivery valve then the moment the fuel stops leaking out is the same moment that the pump's piston has passed the inlet port and starts pumping fuel. I prefer our way though since you don't need to take apart the pump.

The YM336 service manual, for example, describes it the same way as our article- leaving the delivery valve in place and watching for a rise in fuel.
