Hello All ,
Obviously I read more than I write around here but this the info here is priceless.
I am not new to tractors or equipment in general but but my 2025 40SE H Cab is new to me last summer. I'll get right to the point. What are the rules of engagement with the IPTO on these models?? My dealer rep was less than decisive and I could not find what I'm looking for in the manual.

With the auto pto feature, that suggests to me that it is not necessary to reduce RPMs to engage the pto?? It wouldn't make sense if you did. I am running Normand 74inch hybrid/inverted snowblower. (which I absolutely love! but that's another story). Does it hurt the clutch to engage at rpm?? It seems flawless. I've seen videos of operators turning on pto after dragging a "mouthfull" of snow to avoid blasting buildings etc with the discharge. Is that harmful??Is it a wet clutch?? I'm guessing engaging the pto with a jammed up auger or fan would break shear pins first?? Not that I would attempt that.

It seems to engage very smoothly, no clunking or other noises and the tractor /blower have performed flawlessly. I'm just new to this type pto.

Thank you all in advance.

Not sure, but on my 2010 DK45 the manual tells me to drop speed to idol before engaging pto. It’s an electric pto switch. Mine has auto disengage if you lift 3 point and auto restart when drop3 point. I always wonder why it has this as it would restart at high idol. I asked dealer and he told me to always throttle it back down before restoring.

I never wanted to risk it.

Your tractor has a wet clutch for the PTO with a spring actuated brake built in. These can take more beating than a conventional dry clutch, yet it's always better to engage the PTO at idle and then raise your RPMs. It's easier on everything in the drivetrain.

Regarding the Auto mode, I can only recommend this for low speed attachments, like a rototiller, auger and others. There is very little load with these attachments when turning the PTO on at high engine RPMs, so it's not very hard at all on the clutch when it turns On or off depending on the 3 pt height. I use it all the time with my rototiller.

For high speed attachments, like flails, rotary cutters, I don't recommend using the Auto function. For one, it's very hard on the PTO clutch to start all that load at high engine RPM and then, when it cuts off, the spring actuated PTO brake that has to handle all that inertia, again very hard on it.

There should be some sort of soft start built it though. Some are harder to engage than others but still good practice to turn the PTO on at idle.
