2018 RAM vent

I have an 07 Ram and was considering a new purchase until I joined a Ram forum and begin to read about all the issues with new trucks ...
What a shame. My 2005 Ram was the most reliable vehicle I'd ever owned, by a very long margin, and I'd still be driving it today if our salty roads hadn't started eating the body around 12 years of age. My 2015 Ram has been pretty reliable, as well, but like you... I was just thinking about replacing it soon. Rust is already starting to have its way with the thing.

My replacement would likely be a 2500 series 4x4 with 6.4L gasser, but it sounds like maybe now's not a great time to be hopping out of my old truck?

Pet peeve: I need to choose a trim level and then scroll past pages of color schemes and interior options, before I can even see the power train options. I really don't care about color or interior, I shop on power train and capacity only, and then settle for whatever interior and color I find within that criteria. I really couldn't care less if the wheels or bumpers are chrome or black, or if it has some special badge that says "Longhorn" or "Laramie", it just doesn't matter to me. More pages of transmission and engine options, with less pages of color and interior options, would be my preference for a truck.

Oh... and this!

I choose the 4.10 rear for $195, and it forces me to add a chrome bumper package for $1100. Can anyone explain why a 4.10 rear diff requires a chrome appearance package?

6.4L thru 4.10 rear would be awful snappy around town! :ROFLMAO:

No, its not. All three of the HD truck manufacturers are having supplier problems...but Ram seems to be the worse.

I own two HD Rams so I'm on the Ram forums all the times and lately the number of complaints with the newest Rams have grown exponentially. For one, after many many years of having Cummins engines built with solid lifters for some silly reason they are now made with hydraulic lifters and these new engines seem to be having teething problems. And the problems with electronics are myriad. The latest - apparently there is some kind of sensor on the rear axle that goes bad. When it goes out the transmission will refuse to go into Park position. And if the transmission can't go into Park, the engine cannot be shut off. Owners are having to pull the battery cables off the batteries to shut the trucks down. And they are being told that those sensors are on backorder - with a 4 month leadtime!

Reading about all the problems makes me so happy I own older Rams. They've been essentially trouble free.
Makes me wonder.... Probably a pointless thought....but...could people inform the lien holders of the vehicle (if applicable) that the vehicle is down for XXX amount of time due to whatever from the manufacturer...especially if the vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive. Hey bank- how do you feel about me NOT paying for a vehicle that is absolutely no use to me because this manufacture can't get their crap together. Not sure if the bank(s) have any leverage, or they just say so what, give us our money.

Yep, that is how they force you to buy options you don,t really want, but have to buy the package to get the one option you do actually want.

General Lee, the banks don,t want to be involved in the least. They don,t give a rat sass care about the problems you are having with your vehicle. All they care about is still getting their monthly payment. That is between you and the dealer.

Not until Stellantis gets their act together and improves their quality control.

I've also got a Jeep Wrangler and for several years now brand new Jeeps have been having electrical problems...many times because the relays and fuses in the fuse boxes aren't seated all the way. Standard instructions were for new Jeep owners to go into the fuse boxes and push in every fuse to make sure they were properly seated. This last year I'm seeing the same complaints on the HD Ram forums. Are you kidding me??? The workers who are putting these together can't even be bothered to properly install fuses? What else is not properly put together on these trucks? Are the United Autoworkers union members trying to work themselves out of a job?

I bought a 2019 Jeep Sarha in Jan. 2024. Three weeks later I hear rods clatter on cold start. I bought the extended warranty when purchased.
New engine approved. Four months later jeep at dealer and still no engine available. This engine is in new jeeps, pull one off the line.
Stellantis is useless. Parts unavailable for months but find parts to assemble new trucks with unavailable parts. B.S.
2.0 turbo had 42,000 miles was bad so I'm thinking I Don't want the POS new 2.0 engine.

I was stuck so I bought a new 2024 5500 with a 6.4 hemi. More my fit!
I read a lot about the Hemi, lifter rattle. They say don't let them idle for extended times. I never have done that anyway. Utility Co. lets them idle all day in summer heat.

They jam a turbo on a 2.0 and get power but it stresses the little POS 2.0 engine.
So far the new truck is flawless.

I'll do anything to avoid the dealership; afraid they will take my truck for 6 months to get a stinking air filter.
What's going on?

My first Dodge Ram pickup was built during the Daimler-Chrysler years, and I have to admit I was impressed with it's reliability, and even design efficiency. This was right on the heels of the terrible reliability and quality issues of the gen.2 Ram pickups, making their turn-around even more impressive. Most of my friends owned those gen.2 Rams, and I watched at least a few rear diffs lock up, transmissions fail, and acres of premature paint failures on those 1990's trucks.

My second Ram pickup was built during the Fiat-Chrysler years, and other than adding UConnect, they seemed to carry over and maintain much of the components and designes from the Daimler years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But reading online, it does seem many things started going downhill, once Fiat sold to Stellantis. What a shame... maybe they need to sell back to Daimler? :ROFLMAO:

Say what you will about Daimler, no company is perfect, but they do seem to have their act together, in general.

My son had one with the 6.4 L Hemi that developed the 'Hemi tick" at 90K miles. It destroyed it's self from lack of lubrication . A factory defect
