My TV expense is absolutely $0.00 per year!

No TV, no "plan", no electric to not run it, no TV to buy and replace ... Lots more tractor time, and money to spend on tractors ...

Get out of the house, go burn some diesel! When I was growing up, we didn't have a TV, and you NEVER want to tell Mom or Dad "I'm bored"! It was better to pick up a book, or go outside and do something!

Curious as to how you keep up with what is going on in your area of the state if you don't watch the local news? I don't watch much TV except for the news...got to keep tabs on the local/state politicians! Or don't you care?

I'm hardly at home now until I retire in 26 months, I'm in Texas now at the moment (long distance truck driver) ... So local TV is unavailable anyways ...

I have connections in both 2nd amendment and trucking circles that keep me abreast of stuff, and neighbors will tell me if something else local agitates them ...

I rarely watch TV, there is plenty of "news" on more online sites than I could ever keep up with. I would not trust TV as a news source, even less than other mainstream media, or any one source if the news is about politics, power or people. Those in power want to control us, and one of the best ways is to spew their version of the "truth" through media outlets that used to investigate and report goings-on rather than regurgitate what they have been told to say by those on the other end of our leashes.

Yeah, but network TV was always limited at best, and with only a few exceptional shows in 40 years, was mostly all garbage. I wouldn’t want to go back to the old days of only being able to watch the one or two good shows on each week, at a time that’s not convenient for me.
A DVR takes care of the timing aspect, but I understand that some people wouldn't be satisfied with the content. One of the benefits of getting old is that I can rewatch a show that I enjoyed 30 years ago, and it's practically new to me. Between the episodes that I missed and the ones I've forgotten, it's fairly rare that I know the jokes before they happen. Over the years, I have rewatched Married With Children, Seinfeld, Soap, Third Rock from the Sun, and others.

Many of the new shows just irritate me, due to the woke virtue signaling. Their casting is an unnatural and forced kaleidoscope of diversity. I've noticed a pattern that they often start out fairly normal, and they throw in the woke stuff after you've watched it a while. I don't think this is random. I think they want to attract viewers first and then tell you what to think later.

I started to enjoy Only Murders in the Building, with Steve Martin and Martin Short. Then they introduced a woman who was a police officer, who was married to a woman, and her partner was pregnant with "their" child. This was in no way related to the plot they were developing. It was presented as a normal random thing that people don't even think about anymore.

It's kind of a peeve of mine. I'm basically a Live and Let Live kind of guy, but there are some things that I'd rather not watch as part of my entertainment.

Couldn't agree more about the National news and mainstream media. Pretty difficult to find any local news on line. At least here in northern Nevada.

I've got an OTA DVR and it records Gunsmoke episodes faster than I can watch them. I can watch one or two episodes in the evening and I'm good. I like the price of no subscriptions as well.

I also had no TV for several years, when I first moved out on my own. Then my wife moved in, and changed all that, real quick. :ROFLMAO:

Now we still have TV, but no one actually watches it, I need to get around to canceling the plan. We do have many streaming services, tho.

...you NEVER want to tell Mom or Dad "I'm bored"! It was better to pick up a book, or go outside and do something!
lol... same in my house. Claiming "I'm bored" was basically asking for more chores.

I remember when I was a kid, my older brother got done cleaning up the hog pens and told my mom that he didn't have anything to do. He was annoying my mom and the next thing I knew my dad sent us to the closest soybean field and told us to pull weeds in the field. We did that for a couple hours that seemed like a long time for a 12 year old kid.
I learned a lesson that day.

Currently we literally have free TV, but it's very weird watching a live Montreal (Canada) news station LOL (wife works for a communications company in Vermont and it's a perk for work).
Your profile says you live in N.C. How are you getting Montreal tv there, or have you moved to Vt.?

Back when analog tv still existed we could get a couple of channels from Sherbrooke (which seemed to be relays of Montreal stations). Most were in French, but one was English. Interestingly about half the programming was U.S. shows.

Clearly, you haven't lived in northern New England in the winter. Gets dark about 4:30 or so. Not much tractoring to do in the winter here except clearing the driveway after a snowstorm.
That having been said, I didn't have a tv for many years...pretty much all of the 70s, 80s & 90s and don't feel like I missed much. As I get older, it's something to do in the evening. Not many indoor home projects left to do at this point in my life. Workshop is unheated, so not much fun to be there when it's 10° out. 🥶

Hate to say it, but for the most part I fall into the "I don't care" column. Always hated politics, don't even remotely trust either side. Don't feel the need to get stressed over something I have little control over. Only one commercial tv station in our state, and they're a couple hours away...not much "local" news anyway.

My wife is originally from Vermont. Very long story, but due to her job (she's been with the same company in Vermont for close to 30 years) we get the "TV".

What's weird is I'll watch the local news channel (the one from Vermont) and not realizing the location, I see the weather and I'm freaking out because we live in NC LOL

End of the day, if something you're getting is free, you have no rights to any complaints if you "take it" free if that makes sense.

Think about it, you have all these shows and programs, and how do you get them to the end user watching them?

I don't understand it honestly, but "cable" is going out and everything is being "digitalized" on how you view it.

No different than my MIL who got her TV hooked up for "free" by her nephew a couple of years ago down here in NC. The TV company must have finally figured out the "end around" my MIL's nephew did getting her a device that could stream TV at no charge. I have no clue what I'm talking about mind you.

Honestly, if we had NO TV I wouldn't complain but it's just something we get use to.

Notice the "rainbow" theme or placements in TV ads? Subliminal maybe, but it's purposefully done. That annoys me.

This is how I installed the block heater in my last Kubota, when it was 10° out and the wind was howling. It was toasty warm next to the tractor though...
Usually works well on calm days when I need it least. :ROFLMAO: Unfortunately, the wind was absolutely howling that day, taking nearly all of my heat with it. Couldn't even keep a trash can next to me while working that day, it kept blowing away!

Actually born in Springfield, Vermont, moved out in 2007 after living there for 41 years ...

My tractors have lights and chains! 🤠

I am happy to report that I haven't noticed it. As soon as a commercial comes on, I fast forward.

Even when I'm watching a football game almost live, I find something else to do for a bit, in order to build up a buffer, so I don't have to sit through the boring parts.

That's how we watch all TV. Add free by timing with a dual tuner.

I DVR any football game, so I can skip the slow parts, halftime and commercials also. It's the only way I can watch a 3.5 hour broadcast of 60 minute game.

The so-called "Internet of things".

Purchased new ovens and fridge late 2024*. They're Wi-Fi enabled. I do NOT need Wi-Fi on kitchen appliances.

Earlier in the year we upgraded the household network to 6GHz mesh. You manage the router and modems via a phone app. While you can navigate to a "home" page for the modem and routers from a web browser on the PC, you can't do anything - it's just a place holder. Irritating as hell.

And, walking on the bleeding edge of technology kept food on the table and a bed in the dry for 40 years. So it's not like I don't know my way around it.

* The old ones lasted 11 years. Which is about all you're gonna get out of appliances anymore.

There. One post three peeves.
