Good (Thursday) morning. Overnight Low of 12C and it's presently 22.8C [heading to 26C], lightly overcast & calm.

Yesterday's 'into town' (morning session) was successful. The arvo session at the Church to carry on with sanding got interrupted by the organising of the Christmas hampers (food for those 'in need') in the Church hall. I helped out there.

Today I'll head back to the Church hall in a few minutes to pack the hampers. 40 in all, I think.

That's about it, take care all.

with the door facing away from the sun, and a good marine varnish, they should last a long time when you have finished. I have beamed porch finished liked that that while not absolutely new looking is in great shape. I did refinish portions exposed to rain and sun after forty five plus years.
I talked with one of our Deacons who reckoned that the doors were last done 50 years ago, so a good coating of varnish will last well past my time on this mortal coil. :)
rammed-earth house...Didn't know about that building technique. Interesting. If you ran into it, will it be like hitting rock, or suffer some erosion?
A bit of both, really.

I didn't build the house, but I did buy it from the bloke who built it. An 'owner/builder' project.

Praying for you woodchuckdad

I am not too terrible far from you if you need anything

Thank you, everyone. Came thru fine and actually just ate my first meal. I was expecting liquid but was given a low fiber chicken alfredo The chicken was small bits and noodles were well cooked. Not soft but not aldente. They have me on stool softeners for the next few days just to be safe.

I am about to get up and do a second lap around the floor. I’m fading fast so I will crash after that.

Precious really likes the farmers dog feed. The turkey seems to be her favorite. She has slimmed down some and much more active. Hopefully this turns out to be a good choice. I have come to the conclusion that the food our pets eat has shortened their life span
I find it interesting, that Farmers and similar brands are pretty much people food. For years we’ve been told not to feed them people food.

good morning all
interesting weather coming in, getting up to a warm 51 this afternoon, then high winds tonight
that sounds like a recipe for a power outage actually, been lucky so far

have one of my oldest friends coming for dinner, made her my homemade mushroom soup, and will have that with
some sushi and a fancy dessert, most from the local supermarket that has great takeout. But the soup I made, from several
large packages of mixed mushrooms, all different types. Need to run downtown later to pick up the sushi. Nice lady at supermarket answered
honestly when I asked her if I should come back today instead of yesterday. Yes. Ok, fresh it is. I get only ones that are cooked, not a devotee of raw fish at all. Need to find my soy sauce, buried on a shelf since isn't used that often. I always get sushi and sashimi (sp?) mixed up.

one week til Christmas.
ho ho ho

Drinking first cup of coffee. 26° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 53° with rain and wind. Yesterday made a trip to Menards for a couple of pipe fittings. Then spent time in cellar doing another repair to old water lines. Got it done and found another area that needs repair in the near future. All the copper pipes in the cellar where put in the late 40's. And not done very well. Going to help neighbor install a new toilet today. No grocery shopping today.
Always a few birds at feeders.

Everyone stay well and safe.

those of you that own Kias or Hyundais, have they been stolen yet?
apparently a tiktok video in 2021 showed that Hyundai did not install standard anti theft
devices on ignition key like almost every other car has. So apparently it's very easy to steal these cars
and Michigan attorney general just said fix them all. Huge number of cars between 2011 and 2022.
They have to install a sleeve of some sort. A really cheap part initially that failing to install will cost them a
hundred times more.

of course if you don't like your Kia, just leave it out by the curb...
personally I think their new EVs are impressive cars. Inexpensive Kias have a history of catching
on fire too.
I owned a Genesis sedan for three months, used, until I found it was sold to me with a known defective rear end.
Problem was dealer really, not the car.

and since I'm not a mechanic, having a decent dealer is so important. I have sure experienced some bad ones.
actually now I'm leaning towards a private repair shop. Very clear to me why car dealerships make all their money
in service, not sales.
but sometimes no other choice, if I want that drip of mine fixed, local repair shop said no thank you finally, said they worried about getting
it apart and not having right tool to get it back properly adjusted. Toyota has something like six specialty tools for these cars, just for suspension.
There is another shop in Doylestown, Zygmunts, that has done foreign cars since forever.
likely worth calling them and ask them if they have experience/bought the tools with these Toyota/Lexus drivetrains.
I really really do not want to pay the dealer 2900 bucks for a drip.

let's see, do I want to stop a tiny drip or use the same amount of money to fully pay for a summer rv trip.
hmmmmmmm.

speaking of drips, I gave my well to do nephew with all the collector cars
a box of white oilsorb diapers for Christmas. His "clue", we all do tags with clues, is
Because You Are Such A Drip

apparently his Porsche 930 is a dripper. Bet that's expensive to take apart...

Ron, am using one quarter the seed now that I changed feeders. The vertical tubular ones allowed the birds to fling most of
the seed out versus staying within an enclosure. Much better now.

I got a very interesting reply from the headmaster of a local private school I asked questions to regarding their use of library books.
I'm actively involved in managing a small family endowment my naval captain uncle left our local free library.
The one I used to be president of, which made me feel good. Over the years there have been huge changes due to the internet, interlibrary lending and the use of electronic readers. Each year this fund kicks off six to eight grand that allows them to buy new books.
But what to buy when your shelves are already full? Something has to go...

so my SIL and I (she is retired head of English Dept at local high school) are meeting with library board in January
responding to a request from them for a special roof repair distribution. Which we will finally approve...but we want them to explain
themselves and educate our family, because the library today is not what it was 20 years ago when my Uncle set up this permanent fund.

the headmaster replied to my question on the use of technology
I thought his answer was good
Still reading real books, writing by hand (research shows the writing and thought processes are better)
LOL

so kids still learn cursive? After keyboarding for 30 years, my handwriting isn't so hot

Good Tractor Morning,
Ct, 27 to start going to 45. Looks to be sunny and nice for this time of year, but Im working today, so at least I wint be freezing like Monday;)

Friday looks to be a HORRIBLE day with wind and rain, so Im guessing no outside work on the agenda for Friday.

Phil, beautiful work once again, I am curious how you go about hollowing out the inside of spherical vessels that you cant see into that well, and how you manage not to break through the sides while your doing that ?

Not much else going on, hope all have a great Thursday :)
