I bought a Fire Truck

I have had a lot of seat time in the L model's. Great visibility from the seat and leg room.

I've never driven one, just loved their look since I was a child. Over the years I've sat in a few, and have been impressed with the leg room as you mention. I'm 6'5" and I love to just see if I comfortably fit in things, may be weird to some, but it satisfies a curiosity in me.

In my dream world I've got a small Louisville dump truck, something useful for odd jobs.

I have driven a few Fords from the mid 70's to the early 80's. All tandem dump trucks. Started with an LTS 8000 with a 6V53, then an LTS 8000 with an 8V53 and 5&4 transmission, then two L9000's with 8V71's, then an LTL 9000 with a 3406B. I always loved the cabs too. And they had good frames. Hood hinges always broke out of the fiberglass though. I got one on this fire truck I'll have to fiberglass.

That's what I was thinking driving home....I hope there is no fires on the way because I don't even know how to work this thing, LOL

So this is not to debate anyone, I respect all comments, but when everyone was debating over if it's a fire truck or fire engine or apparatus....is this a regional thing?
Because like where I grew up, there were three common fire units.....the ladder truck which was the one with the big powered ladder on it. (I'm not sure if they pump water or not?)
Then there is the tanker truck. And then a pumper truck which is what I have.

Oooohhh that is cool! I'm surprised to see it still has the old Dayton wheels. I figured they would have been required to upgrade those.

The local fire department still has at least one truck still in service with Dayton wheels.

But the tanker trucks around northern MI have pumps on them to pump water into the tank from lakes, rivers. Jon

Looking like I'm going to have a really hard time finding an operation or maintenance manual for this King Seagrave QSMF body.

I bought a 49 Chevy tanker truck as a cab and chassis years ago. It had a 6 cyl. with 6,000 original miles. I put a flatbed on it and used it for parades and car shows.

I had a 1941 Dodge 1 1/2 ton fire truck.

I thought the kids would like it, but I was wrong.
"Familiarity breeds contempt".
I still have the brass pump impeller hanging from a post downstairs, and the water suction apparatus to draw water to the pump by way of engine vacuum.

The hose real sits covered in the side yard.

The truck went to a good home ;-)

Victor Idaho , army olive drab was under the red...

Just a memory now, but I have a photo hanging on the wall......

My previous neighbor bought an older fire truck that wasn't running, but the tank and pumps worked. He modified it into a trailer that he ran off of the PTO of his tractor and parked it next to his burn pile when he lit it. I think he said it held 1,000 gallons of water.

Having a fully operational fire truck would be great peace of mind when burning debris in the pasture!!!!
I was thinking the same thing. I would pay someone with a fire truck to watch over me to burn large burn piles. Our local volunteer fire department won't do it.

Congrats. If you have the money for upkeep, you won't regret your purchase. You are living every guy's dream.
Who doesn't want their very own fire truck?

Chris

That's what I want to do too. Unfortunately they had to remove the siren and they are $2600!!
They probably just wanted the siren cause they knew it's worth or is it oppressive Canadian laws?

I'm like you, I see them on Facebook Marketplace all the time and dream of driving one around.

Here in Texas you see them for sale alot.. with siren.
I'm surprised yours has that many miles on it.
Usually mileage is below 50k but the hours are high.

That's a great looking truck.

not to quibble, guess it does depend on where you live.
A fire engine and pumper truck are interchangeable terms. In most fire companies, "truck" is the aerial ladder vehicle. When listening to their comms, their call signs would be Engine x or Truck x.
An engine usually (maybe used to) have smaller tanks and pumps, whereas a pumper truck had larger tanks and bigger pumps to piggyback water from the source (pond, tanker, hydrant, etc.) while also having a reasonable supply on board for stand-alone use.

So to be really technical, you have a Ford cab and chassis that was modified by Seagrave which turned into a piece of fire fighting equipment. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, I think it had to do with keeping spares of expensive stuff since these small townships operate on limited budgets. They removed the siren, the two red lights on the rear, ladders and all the nozzles.
Like the fire chief said to me "most people that buy these take the bodies off and build dump trucks for the farm"
