As I have said before, we are a really diverse group, and we all get along because we focus on our commonality, not our ideological differences.
It is the focus on differences that is driving the news cycle as well as most uncivil discourse.
Once in while we inadvertently leave a clue on where we stand on hot button issues, but nobody jumps on it.

Thants why I like it here.

For the record, I am very anti authoritarian, and dislike being told what to do, and what I can’t do, But I also realize that could make for a lonely existence, so I try to be respectful of others with equal, but opposite opinions.
I am my own censor. Other than that I agree with you 100%.
I live by my Granddads rule about politics.
I try to live by my Mothers rule about 'live and let live'.
My Dad always told me to use a tool for the job it was intended. He figured out that I had learned the rule when I didn't want to cut plaster of paris (cast on my leg) with tin snips.

Trust me, I'm 100% against us having to add word filters and approval queues for posts.

After a certain event last month, there was a huge uptick in online discussions about topics related to guns and that has led every major advertising network to crack down on displaying ads next to the discussion of guns online. They don't necessarily do things sensibly like understand the context between guys identifying old guns and guys talking about planning crimes. I think they just freak out at the topic entirely.

We have already been banned by one ad network and another was likely going to ban us this week if we didn't take some action.

I've been loosening moderation policy for years. In fact for many years we didn't allow any gun discussions but we loosened the policy. However with these recent changes there are a couple of tradeoffs like the threads must be in the front porch and the general forum must have word filters and an approval queue for matching words related to guns.

We are doing what we can to continue to allow basically any topic, but some understanding would be appreciated as we navigate annoying rules that are being imposed on us.

We are also tweaking the system daily. There are mostly false positives so far.

Remember a few things. First, this is a tractor site and these topics like guns and politics aren't exactly necessary to the subject matter, with few exceptions. Second, very few if any forums online are unmoderated and most are way quicker and way less "fair" than TBN the moment topics go off. Third, "there are other sites" yes and if they're supported by advertising i guarantee you they will get the call about gun topics sooner or later. We are just very proactive.

We're doing the best that we can. If long time members want to leave because of what I've explained, I don't really know what else to tell you.

Speaking for myself, I'm not against rules itself, but context is important, and it appears that gets ignored, especially in this recent case. Maybe by the automation involved in running ads, I have no idea how that is done.
I run an online site, and I have had to develop rules for the site over time, and I decide what and what not to allow, so I understand that aspect.

I was drawn to TBN in the past because it was a family friendly site, no bad pictures and no bad words in general, and very little infighting. But that changed with the front porch, which is why I don't go there unless by accident. If i've responded to a FP topic, i generally drop out when realizing I got sucked in. The Good Morning thread has generally policed itself over the years. Every now and then someone will bring up something bordering controversial, and the rest of us usually just let it go, while on most forums, people would blast away. It's the friendly rapport that makes GM a successful thread in Rural Living, as we describe our everyday adventures in our mostly rural environments. But rural living also means we like to talk about all of our tools, not just our tractors. Anyone with a tractor, knows you need a tool to grease it, and there have been some good discussion on those.
If only advertisers would focus against hate, and not on a tool that's used for good or bad. Things go both ways, I don't shop at Dicks Sporting Goods because of the stance they took. Nor would I support a sponsor here, if I knew they had the same attitude.
I do appreciate the feedback, and the attempt to work thru this.

63F and sunny @ 11:45, calling for a high temp of around 70F. LWS reports the low there this morning was 49.3F.

Ten Day currently shows the high temp forecast for this coming Saturday is 79F ... which is just a tad bit out of the ordinary. But we'll sure take it.

That's just prior to a cold front coming in which will bring a decent chance (50%) of more rain and drop the high temps back to a more seasonable range (60's)

Getting that hole for the northwest corner post finished up is the first thing on the agenda for today.

Then getting the post itself put in, set and braced is the next item on the list.

If I get that done, then I can run another string line and start setting posts on the north perimeter.

Having been toying with welding up a tamping rod I can use with the Harbor Freight hammer drill as I'm getting tired of tamping with the digging bar.

Not sure how much effort it would save, as the hammer drill itself ain't no lightweight.

Time to get cracking ...

Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday ... (y)

Today's is going to be the start of clean up from the storm. It wasn't quite as bad as originally forecast, only 1.27", but 2/3rds of that came down in about twenty minutes, with lots of sediment moving. On a drive into town early this morning, there was a manhole cover blown off the sewer, presumably by the rain overwhelming the sewer. In the near darkness, I barely saw it. I phoned it into the local police, only to discover it was news to them, for something that probably happened at 22:00 last night. I don't know if that is a comment on other drivers, or civic engagement, or what, but yikes, what a road hazard. Lots of places on the drive down where gulleys and ravines had debris flows across the road from the cloudbursts.

I need to put a new plug on the welder. It is the first time that I have had the cover off, and was generally impressed at the build quality which was better than I had expected. Note to self: as an international model, only one of the two hots is switched, which means the inverter board has voltage on it when plugged in, but not on. Livable, but not the way I would have done it.

Glorious day this morning, sunny with scattered clouds.

Yes, a huge thank you to @Muhammad! I wouldn't have bought my tractor without the folks here, and I wouldn't have known how to take care of it, use it well, or maintain it. Thank you all!

All the best,

Peter
