Who rides motorcycles?

This is my favorite street bike. I really wish Honda imported them to the states.

Link to old motorcycle tests. WARNING you might spend hours there.

That would be a great companion to the VFR800fi.

I do think that dirt riding makes a much better street rider though. It's much more technical and requires a lot more control. So much so that the technical aspects become very instinctive and natural, so you can focus on the trail or track ahead which is constantly changing.

Street riding is very sterile. Good surfaces, clean surfaces. Good traction. Really sterile. If you can be a good technical rider, and then go into an environment that is sterile like street riding, you are so far ahead.

Just like an automatic transmission in a car makes one a lazy driver... So too does street riding begin to dull ones skills at really HANDLING a motorcycle. I mean, making it obedient
I guess I rode my full dress bikes on too many secondary roads and even gravel roads. Can't count the number of times I'd go into a curve and find everything from sand/gravel to manure in the curve. Nothing like a Yamaha Venture or HD Ultra Classic breaking loose to wake you up a bit. All of a sudden the pegs are dragging and it looks like your dirt tracking the corner.

I would love one of these 19,000 rpm 250cc 4 cylinder honda's.
I would do this at least once a week in front of the harley shop. LOL

Canada sometimes gets some small-displacement toys that the USA doesn't (dontcha know, ya need at least 1000cc to drive on an Interstate !), but ROW definitely gets some cool rides we never see, either side of the 49'th.... (Me like Honda (y) , just letting Kaw represent below..... gearheads - put it on loop !)

I got quoted $95 a yr for insuring the 250cc. I learned to ride on 250 dirt bikes. Amazing I survived. We all thought we were Evil Kenevil. Those days it was YZs and Rs. Later I rode Motto Guzzi and Harley. Now going back after 20 yrs away I'm looking to restart with the XT250. Should be fun...oh and if I had a little more confidence and $ I would look at getting a WR250R or CRF300L. Both great little dual sport bikes. Maybe later.
Have a fun and safe holiday

The first thing I taught my son was clutch work. He had to prove to me that he could ride the bike at any speed, regardless of throttle setting. You should be able to ride a motorcycle at 5mph with the throttle wide open.

The entire first day of most motorcycle training courses, is simply walking the bike back and forth across a parking lot by slipping the clutch and modulating throttle.

Speed is clutch based, power is throttle. Many people see a clutch as an on/off switch, when it's actually a dimmer. If you can't use a clutch as speed control by slipping it, you'll be a ****ty rider for sure.
Now Now, don't be condescending.

We all start from a place of innocence.

We best learn by example and need.

I've been riding morwe than 60 years, and I just learned today (by observation) that I hold my right wrist (throttle side) down at an angle.
On return to the shop. I tried to change the front brake lever position to encourage a flatter wrist position. Guess what? The brake fluid reservior fouls the bar mount and can not be rotated any further down.
I have been victimized by mechanics for the past 25 years! (1999 VFR) and I have suffered finger numbness for most of them!
Now I need to do something!

It's never too late to learn!

I just brought a new to me 2019 Yamaha XT250 home yesterday, for page 250 of course
It has 1500 miles on it, completely stock, never down, and clean as a whistle.
Seller threw in 3 helmets, jacket, gloves, a trailer hitch carrier, and a battery tender.
I'm excited to get out there and do some exploring but waiting on some MX boots and handguards before any serious ventures. Ride safe.

At least it wasn't an accessory page. That's where the money goes fast :ROFLMAO:
It has been many years since I bought MX boots. All I'll say is I hope they are 5 times as good as the old ones, to justify the price. 😖
