Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Well, I know you haven't bought any drills bits in over 30 years then. Cleveland Twist and Chicago Latrobe were bought out in 1995 by Greenfield.
I bought a Cle-Line at Lowe's the other day when I saw they were made in the US. I didn't realize at the time they were Cleveland. Are they any good? In the old days we sold Hansons, but now I guess they're Irwin, Chinese.

Anyone have an opinion on a good miter saw stand? I am getting ready to start this massive deck and will need a stand for my Dewalt compound miter saw.

They used to be. I have one of their bit stands from the 60s somewhere. I could never afford them. That would be one way to tell. If you paid less than $20 for the bit, you're taking a chance. They may have down graded the steel. I remember when you couldn't buy them in a store. You had to order them through a jobber or tool catalog. Sets were around $500 in 1980s money.

I've had good luck buying M42 or 8% Cobalt drill sets for the machine shop. I've got a set by the lathe and a set for the mill. The only thing your need to watch with M42 bits is on the break through. They can grab and break--Ease it through. They drill through stainless steel like butter. Hard steel is a cake walk.

I use the HF drill set for the hand held drills and the drill press. M35 or 5% Cobalt are pretty good too but they can still break.

Bought a pretty inexpensive one from Menards yrs ago for my place up north still working good, liked it so much I bought a better one super cheap from a Sears that was closing for down here. Both are folding with extendable fences and tables I guess whatever you get try and find one that has quite a few adjustments to dial it in for your needs. Definitely beats the time I took setting one up on sawhorses for trim work and beats the pants off using one on the ground. miter saw up north is a 10" down here is 12". Both compound. However not sliding ones. Bragging Snow drift but I can't stand and never use the new fangled lasers on miter saws these days always seemed to bump them and wouldn't line up for a decent cut. I'll put my money on me for using tried and true old skool methods over anyone using lasers these days even without wearing my cheaters. 😂

I have the Dewalt folding stand. It works great. I have the Dewalt 20V compound miter saw and a General 7" compound miter saw that mount on it. The two mounting brackets bolt to the bottom of the saw and clamp on the rail. Very sturdy and folds up nice for storage.

This is the one I was looking at last night at my local Lowes. I have the 12" Dewalt DWS780 miter saw which has been a very good machine.

Speaking of cheap harbor freight tools repurposed my spare old and very inexpensive at the time 12mm deep color coded socket and made an adapter for a impact or drill so I can drop the stabilizers on my micro toyhauler the quick and inexpensive way vs the cheap hand crank one that came with it and definitely cheaper than going to an RV store to buy one. Notice flux core wire boogers lol still is strong and fits like a glove.

That is the one I had at my work years ago. It's a good sturdy unit.
But the one I would like to have someday is the Bosch Gravity Rise saw stand.

I like to do that too - buy relatively inexpensive stuff from HF and make other stuff out of it:

The ryobi folding stand is good and inexpensive when on sale, but doesnt have wheels to roll around on the job RYOBI Foldable Miter Saw QUICKSTAND A18MS01G - The Home Depot

The Ridgid miter saw stand has a pair of large wheels so it can be rolled around. Can be had on sale sometimes.

Both work well for the 12 dewalt miter. Check oulet for refurb prices on both stands.
