There's potential problems and you can see it in the Pic.s if you know what to look for.
Ok, I clearly don't know what to look for. Can you share or point out what should we be looking for? Where? Which photo?
The Eng. Head not all that big of a deal to replace. The possible Eng. block damage is going to be the big issue. Crack, Rust Etc..
Understood, and I agree with both.
Parts are not going to be that bad of a problem either. It's just what's involved correcting it.
Correcting which "it"? The block? The head?
The good thing It's A JD. model. Same Eng. as the 850 I believe. ;)
Thanks for your postings; I think that you know and understand a lot more than I do, and I would like to learn more. And, yes, I occasionally have trouble understanding, and I would like to understand. My apologies.

All the best,

Peter

Sorry to hear it. I can type, but I am definitely a fat finger typist myself, and who types slower than I'm thinking. That often leaves gaps in my sentences...so not great either.

Have you ever tried dictating (phone/computer)? FWIW: My wife loves to that, and finds it a big help for her.

I enjoy your posts and have learned a great deal from them, so thanks.

All the best,

Peter

Funny you speak of this.
When I dropped the tractor off the other day, my mechanic noticed all the copper around the cylinder head and block.
He said some people will apply copper spray if there’s a lot of “pitting” on the block. He said the block may need to be machined, but won’t know anything until he takes the head off.
Even though it’s not gonna cost me anything, God I hope this isn’t the case. I don’t need or want anymore headache. I have literally lost a lot of sleep over this tractor. It has just about worried me to death.

Your guy apparently can see the possible damage. Is it a VN. import and the poor repair was missed. That very well could be true.? I agree with the pitting I'm doubtful the block is cracked beyond repair. Will see and watching for the outcome. My guess your going to be in much better shape than before.

I’m not sure if it’s a VN recon or not. I hope not.
Remember, this is the 2nd engine that has been installed in this tractor since I bought it. And it’s a brand new loaded cylinder head.
Fredricks had this used replacement block sitting at their shop. Everything in the engine is supposed to be brand new, from the crankshaft up, EXCEPT for the rods.
Fredricks came and picked the tractor up, brought it to their service center, and replaced the engine. I had to go pickup the tractor once it was “fixed.” Then got it home and realized the front timing cover had a crack and was leaking oil! My local repair shop fixed that too and Fredricks paid for it.
As for the replacement parts, head, & head gasket, what kind of quality are they? Were they made in China? USA? I seriously doubt they are Japanese Yanmar parts (I wish).

Here are a couple pictures that was taken by Fredricks, at their shop, of the replacement engine they installed in the tractor.

Looking at the New block pic. you would think that copper would be visible. The copper is a terrible Rig!. IMO. a Ghetto rig pretty much. Call it what you want. If that is the new block I can't see the copper. Really strange and I'm looking hard for it and don't see it?.

In the pic with the new engine block hanging from the head bolts, the copper hasn’t been applied yet.

To my eyes, that thin black line is visible in the video that you posted above, around 1:35.

I hope that this gets resolved soon. If it were me, I would be super thankful to have bought the tractor from a dealer like Frederick's that is standing behind it all.

All the best,

Peter
