Bush hog gouging

I am running 6 ft woods mower . When I am mowing and make a turn the sides dog into the ground and removes a strip of grass. I levaled it side to side . Have it pitched higher in the rear. I've tried raising the mower up thinking that maybe I'm mowing too low , but then it doesn't cut very well.
Anyone have any other ideas? Tia

Are the side deck skids missing? The bolt onto the side skirt of the mower.
My mower broke a skid and it would gouge the dirt, scrape off grass, too.

Where do you get cheap skids?
The manufacturer of my cutter wants $60 for a pair; the place they're supposed to be is pretty smooth so I'd be surprised if the skid shoes do much better job

Mine were $95 each from Deere. I replaced them both.

I use my cutter about 12h/year so I'm only slightly less likely to wear mine out from a lack of skid shoes

I replaced the worn out skid plates on my King Kutter. I made them from ¼" thick 2" wide flat bar stock. I had to take the cut to length pieces to a guy with a press-brake to have them bent to shape, then I drilled the mounting holes and used flat-head bolts.
I was working on my KK today, tightening bolts and readjusting things; going to have to replace the entire yoke and rear wheel this winter, it takes a beating. Those 20 yr. old skid plates are only slightly worn, but my soil ranges from loam to good-ole top soil.
