OK, I need to change the Hydraulic Oil and Filter on/in my TC33D, the current system is extremely contaminated with water, so I need a little info. I checked the price of the oil at the local dealer and it's about $150 bucks for a 5 gal pail, that's pretty absurd. Tractor Supply's Premium/Ultra is about $75. Since I don't get along to good, with my local dealer and it turns out a dealer is my only recourse, I'll be traveling to the next closest dealer, approximately 50+ miles away.

Question No. 1; Is the premium Tractor Supply hydraulic oil OK to use in the TC33D ?

Question No. 2; Is there a alternate filter I can purchase ?

Question No. 3; Where exactly is the filter located on the tractor ?

Does the machine have wet brakes or clutches? If so I would make sure you use NH fluid. I believe I paid $120 for 5gal of NH fluid about 2yrs ago. Either way I would flush it with the cheapest hyd fluid can find. A quick run, cycle the 3pt and cylinders then dump it all.

Hows the water getting in?

To tell you the truth, my plan was to buy a bucket or two of the low grade oil from Tractor Supply (about $40 a bucket) to rinse the system and then dump it. First on the list, though, is to repair the leak at a hydraulic block on the right side of the engine, how the fitting loosened up enough to leak is also a mystery at this point. No work was performed on the tractor in that area, so I just don't know. I noticed a slight leak (a couple of drips or so) on the floor this past Winter, each time I used the tractor to move snow, but it wasn't a real concern at the time. It wasn't until this Spring when I went to move the tractor that the leak, from a fitting on the hydraulic block, became more profuse, spraying a milky combination of oil and water all over the place.
There are no obvious leaks anywhere other than at the hydraulic block.

I have no idea how or where the water is getting into the system. The tractor is barn kept 99% of the time and is never (only about 1% of the time) left out doors. It is used occasionally during inclement weather (rain) but that usage is very seldom.

I'd use what they recommend in that tractor after you get the old oil replaced and cleaned out well.

May not be much difference, but there "can" be. Lubricants and fluids have their own spectrum of stuff you couldn't fit into a volume of encyclopedias.

Some have detergents, some have anti emulsifier ingredients, different weights and operating temperature tolerances. It goes on and on.

I could be the water in there started as condensation. There's a few things that could cause that too.

Warm it up good and run the tractor/PTO for a bit to mix everything up before you drain. It'll get more of the bad stuff out, water, dirt, particulates...

Thanks for the WIX data and the heads-up on the WIX Filter Finder. I searched a bit and I managed to find the WIX Filter Finder page. Each drop-down selection is a bit long in the tooth but I managed to find the same data that you supplied, it's very helpful.

A follow up to all of this is; I thought that the hydrostatic and the hydraulic were different systems, but that may not be the case here. It has now leaked enough fluid so that the tractor will not move, nor does it even sound or feel as if it is pumping. So I guess I'll replace both filters and the fluid. But as I stated earlier, I first need to repair the leak.

So........ exactly where are the filters located on this tractor ? I haven't been able to find them yet. Obviously I'm not looking in the right place(s).

Where is the best place to drain this to ensure I get most of it out ?

Should be drain plugs along the bottom of the different compartments of the transmission and hydro components id think......

Hydraulic fluid can be cheap or expensive but the expensive stuff is always better simply because it contains hy-grade additives whereas the cheapo stuff may or may not.

Your filters are underneath the floor boards and you must have leaked a bunch of fluid for the tractor to quit moving... You even bother to check the sight glass or dipstick? Something I do EVERY time I start my units up. Keep in mind that running the hydraulic pump or hydrostat trans low on fluid can and will damage it. Lots of close tolerance parts inside the rely on the fluid to oerpate correctly.

Don't you have the owners manual, that will tell you not only the location of the filters, but the drain point as well as the quantity of the required fluid and the change intervals........

While a shop manual would be ideal, the owners manual will tell you all the basic info you need.

Sounds like your describing their hydraulic oil. You sure your tractor doesn’t specify universal transmission/hydraulic fluid?
Better check a manual first to be safe

I will say without prejudice than the ONLY thing I purchase at Tractor Supply in the realm of fluids is Power Service Bio-Kleen and Rotella 5-40 T6 if on sale and bird seed and suet blocks again, if on sale. TSC seems to have the best prices on bird seed and the wife likes to feed the birds in the winter so I get it there. Disclaimer, I dislike birds in general as they eat the bird seed and suet and crap on my car as they fly away.... I will say our barn cats try to keep the bird population in check, most times.

I would flush the system with diesel first. Drain the fluid out, let it sit with the plug out overnight. Next day put 5 gallons of diesel in it and run it for 5 minutes. Drain the diesel mix off overnight and fill with cheap clean fluid cuse you might have to do it again.

then dump the diesel into the fuel tank ?

Tractor supply has different types of hydraulic fluid, you'd want to check the specs and get the right one for you needs. As others have said, check your owners manual first. If you don't know where the filters or drains are, you might want to familiarize yourself with the manual before starting. Personally I don't think I'd put diesel fuel in my hydraulic system, if you want to flush it, use the hydraulic fluid to do so. IMHO :- )

It's a hydro drive machine. No way would I be putting diesel in the hyd oil.

In fact since its hydro drive I would flush with the correct oil. Flushing $200-250 in fluid is going to be far cheaper than buying any parts damaged by useing the wrong fluid...not to mention the labor.

I believe I have located both of the filters. The large one is behind the right rear wheel and the smaller one is on the left side of the engine in front of the firewall. I need to verify each of them to be sure.
