My uncle built and raced the Mongoose Olds 215 V8 powered featured in the Hot Rod August 1963 issue on pages 68 & 69 ... "The Mongoose".Buick made some small aluminum block V8s in the early 60s. So did Rover which they put in some Triumphs etc.
The buick 215 V8 weighed in at 318 pounds and made 155 hp. The MG 4 banger weighed 320 pounds making 68 hp.
A Red 1958 Ace fitted with a F85 Olds V8 coupled to a 62 Corvette transmission.
Carol Shelby was quite interested and spent a lot of time sizing up the car and came out with the Ford powered Cobra…
SCCA racing was a big deal in the 1960’s even taking over state parks for sanctioned Hill Climbs…
