Currently on "G" plan . Humana says G plan still available but not F. Roll of the dice on Medicare. Advantage would save my wife and I money now, but Supplement may be needed later on. Limited time to choose supplement when you start Medicare, later on have to be underwritten and per-existing conditions come into play

I finally chose Humana supplement N plan over G. Figured I would save money and self insure just a little

My supplemental insurance is employer sponsored. I got the W-2 form for it today. They paid $8500 last year, it covers a lot of stuff. Luckily, it is non-taxable.

Supplement plan costs are not standardized. They vary by location and insurance company. Mine is subsidized by employer as a retirement benefit but I think the total cost is currently about $182/month. It can vary widely. Part D is additional. It's going up a lot faster than supplemental plans.

Mine is currently $130/mo. Current zip code has a lot to do with pricing, as you get older mine increases also

We had to shop for a new plan this past year due to our existing one being dropped by the insurer. I think our state has a site, but didn't know offhand what it was...just used the Medicare one. Pretty easy to use, was a bit surprised how few options were available for my county. Last time we had to use it there were way more plans available. Apparently the gov't is making it difficult for advantage plans to operate so companies are dropping them. Fortunately, we were able to find a new one that suits our needs.

Not sure why the variety of plans are becoming less.
I don't know if the government has anything to do with having less plans to choose from so much as around here many hospitals and the health groups they control are refusing to accept many plans.

Medicare Advantage plans are becoming less available in some areas because they are like HMOs in that they only pay fully for "in plan" medical providers. If the reimbursement is below market, the local providers won't participate so the plan becomes unavailable.
