Title pretty much says it all. I want to put ballast in my tires and they hold 70 gal each. I'm thinking 55gal drums would be ideal. 2 barrels would give me 1200 lb of Ballesteros which should be plenty.

I put washer fluid in mine. Way cheaper than beet juice.
You must have some large tires to take 70 gal. each. Mine took about 37 gal. each.

Quick search found one site with RG, nearly 1700 for a drum. Might check with these guys and see if it's a good alternative.

17.6x24. Chart says they you'd 70 gal ea, but 55 should be more than ill ever need. Last time I did one it was an 11.2x24. Pretty sure those hold around 33 gal. Cost of having the shop put beet juice in was only about 10% more than another shop down the road wanted for washer fluid, but that was a few years ago.

The alcohol they put in windshield washer fluid to lower its freezing point can destroy rubber tires. Whether it's methanol or ethanol. It causes the rubber to soften, swell and then become brittle.

Also check into this product. It’s non corrosive, won’t freeze, and less messy than beet juice. It’s what my dealer uses.

Bio-ballast is very likely another sugar based concentrate based on the SDS at your provided link. SDS flash point ( decomposition point ) for sugar is 365'F per Bio-ballast SDS is ">375'F" and pure sugar degrades at 365'F or 185'C per Crystal Sugar SDS.

Bio-ballast SDS

Pure sugar SDS

I don't know about either Beetjuice ( Rim Guard) or Bio-ballast being less messy as they are both examples of waste product that would normally go into animal feed instead being repurposed and sold at a much higher profit as wheel ballast.

Bottom line is they both provide the highest density, with anti freeze properties, wheel ballast available. Both require the solution to be warm, either done in warm weather or heated, as they are very thick in cold weather and much harder to pump in thru that small tire valve. Tires are filled with valve at high point and fill stops when solution runs back out valve. This prevents filling a tire till its solid and provides an air cushion when driving over a raised object.

Bottom line. Shop around for either Rim Guard or Bio-ballast for least expensive installed or drummed product as they are essentially identical but from different organic feed stock

ps. My M59, bought used out of PA and shipped to NC, came with RimGuard but not listed as feature during sale. I discovered filled rear tires when I tested air pressure and purple juice sprayed out due to valves not being at highest point.

I'd think you've already seen their web site, but...

You can contact them for a dealer near you, but I found an industrial tire place (rather than farm tire shop) that did mine for me pretty cheap. IMHO, it's not a DIY job.

My dealer though it was made from corn so you guess is probably pretty close.

Good point. One of the things the Bio-ballast literature says is that it conditions the rubber, not degrades it.

My conclusion, based upon reviewing Bio-Ballast SDS, is based on the freeze point depression due to dissolved solids is likely sugar since undissolved solids have very little effect on freeze point depression and the flash point is very similar in both SDSs. Corn waste makes sense since its cheap and plentiful and quite possibly a residual of ethanol or something ADM is processing since they are consumer of huge corn quantities.

Alcohol, in sufficient concentration, is also corrosive to brass. Don't know its effect on valve stems as I've never run it in tires.

My last tractor that I sold in 2021 had a mixture of methanol and water for about ten years. I never noticed any corrosion on valve stems or effects on tires, but maybe give it a few more years?

My current tractor has this mixture also. Purchased in 2007 with tires loaded. Metal valve stems still like new, not sure about inside of tires and rims but nothing visually concerning

Although heavily advertised in farm pubs, Rim Guard isn't always available locally. Shipping might be somewhat pricey from a stocking dealer.

What I did was simply use a couple of clean 55 gal drums (with intact bung plugs) and drive an hour to a farm implement dealer who had it in bulk storage. They just pumped it into my drums and I had my tire guy pump from the drums into the tractor tires back at the farm.

I've forgotten the price now, but it seemed reasonable...for root juice.

Best of Luck.

Just repeating what science says. Did you check the inside of the tires? You could have been running on tires no more than 1/8" thick.

And you could be right. Probably good that I sold that tractor 3 years ago.

I use molasses get it in 275 gallon drums or 55 gal barrels from the feed warehouse. Molasses I think is denser than the beet juice. Needs to be warm otherwise it’s slow. I used air to push it in because the pump burned out. Plumbed the 55 gal barrel to take air chuck and only used about 20 psi and it went in really fast. Much faster than pumping it in. Used a air water separator connector to pause and release air a few times per tire.
