Anyone following the new '25 Rams? I like what I see. Some changes noted.

2025 Ram Cummins 6.7:
The High Output engine is discontinued
CGI block is discontinued and replaced with cast iron (NVH improvements)
3.42 gears only
430 HP and 1,075 ft lbs
New version of the CP4 HPFP
New turbo
Cylinder Head is revised – External injectors easier to service
ZF 8 speed transmission
Grid heater is discontinued and replaced with glow plugs
Oil canister and both fuel filters will be topside
New emissions system
Faster DPF heat (cold start emissions and no intake restrictions)
Dual alternator package is now 400A or 480A, was 380A or 440A
Possibly an entirely new driveline
No difference in cab structure (still a 2010 design)

Other 2025 additions:
14.4" Touchscreen Display (rhz)
Drowsy Driver Detection (xnm)
Traffic Sign Recognition (sjb)
Dual Wireless Charging Pad (cms)
Active Lane Management System (xnw)
Next Generation Engine Controller (nzd)
Pedestrian/cyclist Emergency Braking

2027:
7.2-liter coming for 2027 CARB and EPA emissions
Additional displacement needed for lower cylinder pressures

Just the transmission but you can buy one from Mopar for $40:eek::LOL:

I’m going to let the dust settle on the new version, then check out a new one later in 2025. Maybe it’ll be a 2026/27?
It’s not a bad idea to avoid buying the first year of a new release….especially when it’s a new transmission. Ford & GM had their share of trans problems. I don’t want anything to do with that.

My impression is this:

It’s about damn time Ram went with ONE transmission and ONE power rating on the engine.
The Chrysler or Aisin transmission and the 2 Cummins power ratings just made for unnecessary confusion.

I like the one torque rating, but will they continue to de-rate the 3500/4500/5500 cab/chassis trucks?

One thing I was NOT impressed with is the tow ratings remained the same or slightly lower. They are already great, but lets keep improving, not staying the same.

IMO, when you introduce a new drivetrain, the last thing you want to do is throw cold water all over it with no increase in towing capacity.

This new design is all about NVH and fuel economy. It’s a quieter, more efficient truck, but appears to be no more capable than it’s predecessor in towing, other than saving some fuel and a bit more powerful.

Good, but eh….not something for ME to get excited about.

Car and Driver magazine just gave one of the lighter 2025 Ram trucks the truck of the year designation.

Eventually they're going to have to stop doing that. You can only make a light truck capable of towing so much. The ratings already exceed the legitimate capabilities of the trucks in some cases. I have no experience with the newer Dodge's, but the new F150's are definitely rated to tow more than they're legitimately capable of, at least if there are any hills involved.

Trust me, the Rams (not “Dodge” for almost 15 years) are capable of towing far more than what they are rated for.
Ask me how I know….

An F-150 is a toy to me, so how they tow is of no consequence.

One should be very careful buying from a company who changes/updates their engine every 2 to 3 years to address complaints and issues.

Funny thing is, they didn't update the worst issue of all which has been the roller rocker valvetrain they switched to a few years ago. And they went back to a "revised" version of the problematic CP4 fuel pump. That's not going to sit well with loyalists. OH, and the new engine has OTA update capability....which essentially means they can spy on you and verify any time you tune/modify the engine.

This is an absolute no-go for me. I'll keep my old Powerstroke forever and if it dies I'll buy an old Cummins or another old Powerstroke.

Yeah I think I will keep my 2020 Ram a while, until I get some “real world” feedback like from hot shotters or farmers. The candy ratings on you-tube are for cupcakes & kids playing with trucks.

Of course I will always watch what the other 2 do. If GM and Ford come up with a breakthrough that benefits me, I will consider one.
Brand loyalty is so stupid.

I'm really surprised they did not fix the roller lifters.

Towing is not really a power thing, it's a gearing thing. That is why cab and chassis can tow more, because they have gears set up for that. Also, capacity is dictated by the axles and suspension.

It looks like they finally fixed the grid heaters and that one bolt that can wipe an entire engine out.

I wonder what they mean by a new emission's? Hopefully it doesn't take 10 years for the bugs to be worked out of the emissions.

Its also a factor of off-idle torque. 6 cylinder engines excell at this. ;)

Part of the new emmissions is moving the select catalyst up closer to the exhaust manifold to make it run hotter and improve its performance.
Mine is a few feet down stream from where the really hot exhaust is.

I've never heard of this off idle torque or even a metric that can define it.

Can you point to me how I can read up more about it?

Look at a dyno chart. Look at the torque just above idle.
That’s what gets a load moving.

It’s one of the primary reasons a 300HP diesel engine will pull more than a 400HP gas engine.

More torque as soon as you dip your foot. Saves fuel, too.

Have you looked at a dyno for a boosted gas engine? How is that any different than a inline 6?

Maybe, just maybe...off idle torque is created based upon how fast a turbo spools up?

Just spitballing here.
