It's possible however, you won't be buying toys or tractors or a new buggy and you will most likely living in a cardboard box, under a bridge somewhere and your 'address' will be a PO Box.

Far as HD's comment about able bodied people not wanting to work. Just cut off their free gummit money and see what happens...

I believe the 'new sheriff' in town is going to do exactly that actually.

you are not. They don’t want to come right out with it but sugar should be classified along the same lines as tobacco.

Either the current laws/rules regulating those 2 industries or the agencies responsible are under-powered, under-funded, under-staffed.
A large portion of the American population has limited access to quality foods. Most of these people, if it were available, would not be able to afford it. Both the tobacco and now industrial food knowingly, and in some cases designed products or food, that are highly addictive.
I never started any tobacco product, but I know many people trying to quit. As far as food goes, the ingredients in many of our general consumption foods have changed drastically in the last 10-15 years. "Quality food" costs to much for many Americans.
Choices are limited.

Until you find a better method for me, as a normal middle-class American, stand up to corporate power then yes, I am all for regulation. Do I argue that many of the regulatory systems need overhauling, but to eliminate regulation from the government on massive companies is part of the issue.

That rail disaster was the direct result of safe regulations being removed due to heavy rail industry lobbying.
The safety protocol for the rig involved in the Gulf oil spill had polar bears in it. Copy and pasted. The dept responsible for checking that was cut by a VP that had friends in the industry.
Imagine where we would be if the clean air and clean water act were never established. And guess what, industries did, and still do, fight having to not pollute for the sake of profit.

I guess the whole 5000 series of John Deeres are going to get a 26% price increase. India just got a whopping 26% tariff slapped on them. Deere prices have already got out of reach of the smaller farmer and they have been looking elsewhere for a better deal

I don’t think there’s any compact or small utility tractor that’s mostly made in USA. So they all will be price affected by tariffs.

I saw a note about an article in a farming magazine with the title "Outwitting Slugs This Spring." I was kinda disappointed to see they weren't talking about politicians...

I think that once the dust settles we'll see that things won't be as rosy as the Empowered predict, nor as dire as the Loyal Opposition predicts. It'll be somewhere in the middle. I for one won't be spending any more than I have been, tariffs or no tariffs, because I don't have any more to spend. Time to awaken my carefully obtained "make do without" skills one more time.

At the end of the day, discretionary spending happens from income or debt. Since debt is expensive (high interest) and income isn't rising as fast as these tariff numbers, the indicators point toward sales declining when consumers just don't have the money to spend. With prices of tractors already up significantly over the past five years, adding another 20-30% should in theory hit sales hard if this actually comes to pass.

CNH Industrial, the company behind Case IH and New Holland equipment, has announced an immediate halt to all equipment shipments from both North American plants and European imports. This move is in response to the uncertainty surrounding upcoming tariffs and their impact on pricing.

According to CNH's official statement:

In North America, we are stopping shipments from North America plants and European imports effective today. This is a temporary move until we assess the full impact of planned tariffs on pricing. There are no impacts to production and parts shipments continue as planned. We will continue to monitor the situation.

One of the way companies get around targeted tariffs is build in other countries, for example China building a new factory in Mexico to take advantage of low or no tariffs.
If there is across the board tariffs then that is no longer an option and I think that's the idea, build the plant here only I think there is a real risk in how the rest of the world will react.

Parts are always the step child in these discussions because once the investment is made parts are necessary to maintain.

Today several friends at work were speaking about imported solar panels fearing they may have waited too long to act.

Off topic but in 1996 equipment light bulbs I needed cost $4 ea. if I bought 20 pcs. at a time.

4 years ago the price increased to $13 and 2 years later $17 and last Monday’s order $24…

The company said they expect $30 due to tariffs… made in Japan.
