I read where Toyota has been working on a truck that they can sell for $10,000 overseas, and they are trying to get it on the market here in the US for under $20,000

I think that Tesla will have to come up with something like that to be competitive in the long run. It's a novelty now, but there are only so many people that will buy it, and if they want everyone to have one, it's going to have to come down in price significantly.

I’ve said this from the beginning. The pre orders were not going to come true, just like the model 3. The 3 at least appeals to more people than the CT. I would have made the Y before the 3. The CT is more of a SUV than a truck. The only issue it’s pretty large.

I can hope that something good will come from it all in future developments. Sometime it takes a weirdo to do something different to get us to the next step of doing something better.

It might stir up the US auto industry, but the Cybertruck has zero impact on Europe or Asia: There are plenty of EV vans on the market for commercial use.
And the urban people in the US who would fancy a Cybertruck, that type of consumer in Europe drives an Audi Q7 E-tron for half the price.

With economy of scale, profit will increase and price/ availability will improve.
The Model Y was $65,000+ when it was released in 2020. I paid $43k for an AWD long range last month.

Thats exactly why large car rental companies such as Hertz get rid of all of their Teslas:

They invested heavily in them, then Tesla drops the price by 20 grand, thereby decreasing the writeoff on existing Teslas by at least the same amount.

Its a huge financial loss for Hertz, which they chose to take before the prices for used Teslas take an even deeper plunge.
Hertz chose to stop doing business with Tesla as they cannot calculate their cost level on vehicles with a questionable resale value.

To me the CT looks like an 80's idea of a futuristic truck. Looks like a clown car today.

There are a lot of different grades and processes for stainless, most notably 304 and 316. Some are more corrosion resistant than others, some are magnetic, some are not. Allegedly the CT is a proprietary 301 alloy which I know nothing about.

I was thinking, 304 and 316 are pretty tough, not very ductile. Automobile steel is very soft and has very low cold hardening effect, in order to be able to be pressed in shape.

So the Cybertruck has its ugly square shapes because the material limits the shape in which it can be pressed: Folding the edges is easier than real 3D stretching and shrinking, and even the material allowing some pressing isnt really stainless...?

I don't know, I just don't get the appeal. But I guess there are people out there that feel vehicles are just an appliance to go point-A to point-B.

Its not THAT type of pragmatic buyer that buys a Cybertruck.

Cybertruck owners buy it because they want to differ from the crowd. Its a lifestyle statement.
Same as the Prius 20 years ago, it just had to be styled odd so that everyone can see that its owner was saving the planet while upholding traffic in the fast lane

Yep, my stereotype of a CT fan is because it's different, and they might be just as likely to buy one if it had a ICE drivetrain.

Prius was different. Toyota was all about MPG, even to the extent of pumping the coolant into an insulated container when the engine was off in case it was restarted soon. IIRC, it had a drag coefficient lower than a Porsche 911. The weird shape was all about aerodynamics. Later, when T introduced the boxy rear version for more hauling capacity, the mileage dropped, probably from aerodynamics.

Citroën fills that niche in Europe. All the odd vehicles in todays market must be killing them nowadays

The Cyber truck brand Halo effect introducing the 48 volt architect to the EV industry should be helpful as legacy Auto continues to rip out ICE production lines to install EV production like the Bolt revival.

I hope the rebate or whatever you want to call it for EVS is withdrawn since it has not developed any competitor in the USA against Tesla. The EU plan to continue phasing out ICE production should be good for profitable EV makers. I expect things will shake out by 2050 as legacy ICE makers continue to inflate ICE vehicles out of the price range of the general public the doors to Chinese EVs may swing wide open by 2036.

Well one good thing about it, is it might bring North American automakers back to reality.
I listened to a program about the one Chinese EV that is selling in Canada and they were saying even if there is a tariff put on it, it will still be $17,000 cheaper than the cheapest NA auto.
So the NA automakers got one and sent it to an independent firm to disassemble it and inspect and they said it was better built and better quality than their home grown autos.

Well one good thing about it, is it might bring North American automakers back to reality.

The reality is that China has played chess better, and is sitting on 80% of the rare earth minerals required for the green wet dream, either within its own territory, or by debt trap diplomacy in Africa.
Thats also why VW is in rough weather right now... Western manufacturers just cant get the commodities for a competitive cost price.
