Kubota L4060
I would like to install a bypass seat safety/cutoff switch for my 2023 Kubota L4060 ROPS tractor. I do not want to permanently disable it, just be able to switch it off under certain limited circumstances, but keeping it engaged most all the time. I have attached a photo showing the wiring and location of the plunger style disengagement switch, and the blank spot to install a bypass switch. My question is, where do I tap into the wires... just after the plunger switch, or after the gray connector in the line...or do I disconnect the gray connector and jump it over to the bypass switch? Thanks.

There should be instructions on how to disable the seat safety switch in your OP manual. Example - you have a chipper attached to the 3-point. You do - #1, #2 and then #3. You then get off the tractor and use the chipper.

I'm not sure what reason you have for bypassing the switch. If it's for off tractor use, like a generator or chipper, many Kubota's let you fold the seat forward which automatically bypasses the switch. Not sure about the L4060 though.

I have an air ride seat on my L6060 which does not have this feature. I installed a mechanical twist timer to bypass the switch. That way, I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it on again. It comes in handy when I want to stand on the deck to see the fork tips or line up an SSQA implement.

Can you show me how you wired the timer?

Then there is the system on my 2009 Kubota M6040. With the chipper connected - engage the PTO. Get off the seat. A buzzer will beap - 8 to 10 times and then shut off. No seat folded forward - nothing shut down.

Just a buzzer that warns everybody - "The PTO on this tractor is engaged". As if everybody can't hear the hurricane being sucked thru the chipper.

Hold the DAMN phone here. Page 89 of the 2023 Kubota L4060 operator's manual gives specific instructions on how to use the PTO. Specifically - off tractor PTO operation.

Like I said before - open and read your OP manual.

They don't give the operator much time to flip the seat up, plus the optional air ride seat does not have the unattended pto option. Not sure what the op has though.

I'm not talking about or have an issue with the PTO, which I never mentioned. I only want to be able to move the tractor a bit forward and back while standing on the ground to line up implements on the front end.

The reason I'd like to have a bypass switch is not about using the PTO. If I am hooking up implements, either on the front or back end, I have limited visibility to get things lined up properly, but I do have a better view when on the ground. I used to be able to move the HST pedal by hand to accomplish this on my previous Kubota, but that is because I had permanently bypassed the seat switch. I don't want to go that far with this new tractor. As it is I have to get off, the tractor dies, I look at the lineup, get back on, start up the tractor, move it, get off, tractor dies.... This is not a PTO issue with me, I don't have a chipper or a generator, or the like. So page 89 is of no use to me. But hey, if there is another page I'm missing I'll be happy to go there.

I've seen write ups adding a defeat switch here on TBN you can search if this thread doesn't generate the info.
Your L4060 should NOT be shutting off when you leave the seat with the pto off and HST pedal in neutral. There is a testing procedure in the WSM to determine if the other safety switches are causing a problem.
If you really want the disable switch so you can inch the tractor from outside, I would recommend troubleshooting the existing problem first.

Very sorry - Dave. Didn't realize your unit shut down just by standing up. I related your concerns to the way my tractor responds. Mine only buzzes when the PTO is engaged. I could jump off my tractor with it running and it would just keep on going.

You are correct, the tractor does not shut off when leaving the seat with the PTO off and HST pedal in neutral. However, if out of the seat and you attempt to move the tractor with the HST pedal it will shut down. So, I believe all the safety switches are working as they should and aren't the problem. I just want to be able to inch the HST pedal/tractor when not in the seat, and then disengage any bypass switch I've installed so all the safety switches are working while I am using or traveling the tractor. All I'm looking for is input on how to install a manual bypass switch, or even if it is not possible (I already know it is not recommended).

I would tap into the two wires just after they leave the seat pushbutton switch. Run your two new wires up to your remote switch location and connect them to your new bypass toggle switch. That way you are leaving the existing circuit intact. You will then have two ways of moving the tractor via the HST pedal - by sitting in the seat or by using the new remote switch. Turning off the remote switch reverts back to the original safety design of having to sit in the seat in order to not stall the engine when pressing the HST pedal.

My MX tractor would shut off when I stood up to see the bucket attachment better. Disabling that nanny was my first modification.

On my BX I was using the backhoe and had to make frequent moves. I found that I could just press the switch with one hand and activate the pedal with the other hand. It worked well for me. Although not recommended, I felt relatively safe since if I fell my hand would come off the switch killing the tractor.

Thank you, that is the response I was looking for.

I've been tempted to "want to inch it forward or back just a bit" at times, while standing next to it, but I really think it's too danged dangerous to have that function. IMHO

I will do that when connecting an attachment when I need an inch of movement - my hydrostatic tractor is very user friendly this way. I have over 30 yrs owning and operating experience. I know the risks and the precautions needed.

I do this when necessary to move the tractor a "small" way forward or back.

I just stand back making sure I'm not going to run over my foot and bump the HST pedal and the tractor will move 6 to 8 inches at a time. Holding the pedal down will shut off the tractor.
