looking at used JD 3720 or 5045E tractor

just had mine repaired , one side , is there a vented dipstick ?
There are a couple aftermarket manufacturers for them but they charge a premium for them. Easy solution is to just drill a 1/16 hole through the plastic dipstick.

I've had my 3320 since 2008 with zero problems. Also have the 447 backhoe for it. As posted earlier, they are lite in the rear end. So weigh them down.

Have you used the hoe much? How has it worked for you?

$100 ! Wow. I like the "drill the plastic OEM one" Doesn't leak?
It might if you run it at a steep angle like moldboard plowing but the amount lost is nominal.

Both my 4310 and 4400 had front seal axle leaks. I vented both of them and replaced the recommended hygard with GL5 gear lube since its a self-contained unit completely separate from the hydraulic system so running low viscosity hydraulic oil is unnecessary. After I did those two changes the axles might be "wet" but don't leak enough to warrant replacing them.

I do annually before freezing weather remove the drain plugs on each hub assembly to do a quick check to drain any water that may have accumulated but so far with the small hole in the cap I haven't noticed any accumulation even with my tractors typically stored outside and utilized in snowy weather.
