Did you buy it or are those pictures of the machine? For the hours it looks decent to me.
Thats just pictures of it. Thats my thoughts looking at it you wouldnt think it has over 4k hours on it. But ive yet to hear of anyone having one with that many hours.

By looking close-up at the first photo, it looks like the loader has been repainted. The hydraulic piping, hoses and even ty-raps are green and my 5205 of about the same vintage certainly didn't leave the factory like that. You might ask the vendor why the loader required a paint job after only a little over twenty years?

I’ve got a friend with this tractor. Roughly the same vintage. Some of the hard lines are painted green but not the hoses. It does look like the loader has been painted. A different machine, hours unknown since the meter stopped working but probably approaching 2500 to 3000 hours. He has fixed minor things on it, hoses, a relay generally minor things. It’s a different machine though.

Im looking at buying a 2004 john deere 4610. It has the hydrostat. Overall it looks like a nice machine that was taken care of but it has over 4000 hours. Owner has only owned it for a few hundred hours and is unsure if its had any motor or transmission work in the past. I've tried searching for other 4610s with that many hours to compare it too but I havent found any. Does anyone have a 4610 with that many hours? Have ya had to do any major work?
I have a JD4400 that I bought new and I do a lot of hard work with it doing timber work hard pulling brush hogging farm work over 4000 hrs on it and I have NEVER had a problem with the hydro transmission or the Yamnar engine they are both tough maintain it well and you should be fine.

Yes im familiar with checking the basic and im not scared to do some basic maintenance repairs. The tractor is about 3 hours away so all I have to go off of is pictures which in my opinion show a tractor that has nowhere near 4000 hours (seats not even cracked).

My reason for asking this question is to try and get an idea of how common it is for one of these smaller tractor to live that long. I dont exactly want to do a major engine or transmission repair shortly after spending 10k+ on a tractor. Cant imagine finding a block is even an option on something like that.
Unless you now how well it was maintained, I'd be wary. If taken care of they can last. I have a 2004 Case DX33 (Shibara) that I bought new - followed the manufacturer maintenance schedule and kept records of all maintenance & repair (all work done by myself) and just turned 5000 hours and still going.

You can tell a lot about how a tractor was used by looking at the bucket and the sheet metal and parts for the 3 point hitch. If the
owner didn't bend things up and all the 3 PH parts are there and straight, the owner was careful and probably took care of proper maintenance on it.
The suggestion that a good diesel starts quickly is a good one, too.
I have 4650 hours on my L35 and someone would get a good deal to buy it for $10,000.
You could get a few thousand more hours if luck is with you.
