@RjCorazza I believe this is all about noise, really, and from point of discharge, 300 ft away is not that bad, even for magnum type rounds. Rimfire, frankly, at 50 ft it should be fine, noise alone.

My gun range committee Father always said that whatever the distance is, it's from the point of discharge. I have shot on my property in the past, but would want the entire trajectory path (intended) to be included in that 300', which is doable on my 6 acre property. I mostly shoot subsonic 22 or pellets, so I doubt my neighbors even hear it.
IMO there is a huge difference in sound even at 100' with a centerfire cartridge going supersonic with a can vs no can to the listeners ears.

Shooting subsonic 22LR suppressed, I think you'd find it hard pressed to find people who could hear you shooting 10' if they're inside the house.

I've asked a couple of neighbors if they've ever heard me shooting at night, answer is always no when shooting centerfire supersonic rounds suppressed (one home about 600' away I'd guess).

One of many reasons why I gave up on the subsonic 300 blackout :ROFLMAO:

At 300', you'd definitely hear someone shooting a supersonic centerfire rifle unsuppressed with the shooter outside the home and you inside the home.

I really wish the US would take a stance on cans, mufflers, silencers or whatever you want to call them like a lot of European countries where you eliminate a huge amount of noise when shooting, being they're cheap and no special licensing required to own them and it's considered rude to shoot without one (y)

But everyone knows that suppressors/cans/mufflers/silencers are evil and contribute to mass gun shootings...

Most definitely. One minute you're an innocent homeowner out target shooting: then you screw on a silencer (finger tight) which turns you into an assassin.
Or you can just use a soda bottle.
I saw both on TV so they must be true!

If I have the suppressor one, you can hear it in the house about 80 ft from bench, If you are listening for it. If you don't have the suppressor on, it annoys the wife trying to watch TV, but unless it's the 50 cal Muzzleloader, or the 270 Win, it's just not that bad inside at 80 ft. 22LR or anything with suppressor, all good. The 50 cal and 270 both are loud inside at 80 ft; as would be the 308 18" If it wasn't threaded.

Edit; in all honesty, I got the suppressor to be able to shoot in backyard without annoying everyone; and it does that job good enough.

I spent 40 years playing the drums, then switched to bagpipes in 2020. According to my family, the switch was "because drums aren't loud enough". My neighbors would probably wish I'd just take up shooting in my own yard. :D

That's the only reason I would want one. It's rather stupid that we can't have them without jumping through hoops.

I've always wanted to try a pillow, but for some reason it seems like a bad idea, and too many things could go wrong...

Always someone willing to put something on youtube :ROFLMAO:

Kind of like filming things that go boom or pressurized tanks. To many things that could go wrong and you're forever remembered for being an idiot (AKA guy who lost his leg shooting tannerite on a mower while moving TOWARDS his target because he wasn't hitting it).

Apologies for totally derailing this thread, but in my defense, don't think I started the downward spiral;)

We are scheduled to formally tour that 12ish acres on the peanut shaped pond this Friday. I'm not sure I like how excited my wife is about this one; you don't make logical decisions when you're emotionally invested.

Just sold my home of 16 years on June 15th.
I am now comfortably ensconced in a very comfy rental home until we find our next home.
The moving process was awful, but we got great $ for our home. Now we wait until the market tanks and interest rates once again begin to fall.
For everyone’s sake, I hope that happens so we all have a chance to relocate.
Hope we're in the same position when we sell our home of 20 years.

To large for just my wife and I.

When we move, the large gun safe will stay in the basement (hopefully possible new owner will appreciate it).

Reality is we don't want to move twice after we sell our current home and move into the home we die in.

From what we have saved, hoping we can find something and move only once to a single story home with less than 5 acres.

If the market tanks, I have little doubt that we should get back what we paid on the house and land along with the rate of inflation.

Just came across a place in western NC that the asking price is 725K. House and 1/4 acre bought in 2018 for 350k. We bought our place in 2005 and has 38 acres and much larger nicer house (IMO) than the one I looked at for 725K (which I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole).

I might of missed it, but what is the asking price on that 12ish acres?

Check tax value and last sold with sold date on the property?

I generally look at the tax value and last sold price vs time since sold to determine if it's worth the money on my end.

I never sold a gun and made much money on what I paid for it, and what I've learned when selling a home and property (now that we're thinking about doing so) is to look at the inflation rate when bought vs selling along with how much over the appraised tax vlaue (sell price will ALWAYS be over tax value, question is how much more?).

We don't flip homes, and look at a home as an investment,.
