After 2020 why would anyone believe the government is trustworthy? We have so many proofs now of experiments and operations over the last 70 years on the people that anyone who thinks the government is trustworthy and is there for the people, could be sold anything with a seal of approval or certification.

There was a lot of talk about weather control during the cold war. It was going to be the next great weapon. But the US believed the Soviet's propaganda and vice versa, so each side thought the other side was farther advanced than they actually were. And of course there are a lot of incentives to think that, both due to game theory and for getting more funding and status for one's own weather control programs.

Of course we know now that they're all failures, with the possible exception of cloud seeding. Maybe. Sometimes. Something to keep in mind when people say it's ok to keep adding CO2 to the atmosphere because we can to clean it up once we develop the technology.

The carbon cycle is extremely important and required for life on Earth. The mechanism to "clean it up" was invented by Mother Nature - a myriad of plants and microorganisms remove the carbon from CO2 as part of their life. We always think of trees and swamps as the big deal, but they are relatively minor and very slow response parts of the cycle. The oceans are massively more involved and it is phytoplankton that is the primary rapid response and high volume carbon fixation path. The largest reason we are up the creek without a paddle is we have managed to poison the oceans horribly, killing off around 30% of the phytoplankton. One species alone (diatoms) is responsible for 42% of all of the oxygen we breathe. Not so concerned with what we do to release carbon as much as how we have screwed the planet by destroying much of what absorbs it and releases oxygen.

Just to put the scale of atmospheric carbon into perspective, think of how much limestone is on this planet. Most of it came from the atmosphere - so we have been at some pretty high levels until mama N fixed things for us.

Mother Nature is on a different time table than humans are. She will take a few million years to make changes in evolution. She has all the time in the world.
Father time is predictable.
Mother Nature, you never know what that witch is going to do.

1995 Carl Sagan...

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”
